to all the fuckwads claiming #NoKings achieved nothing, then why have the numbers of mostly w̶h̶i̶t̶e̶ Real Americans™ more than doubled?you know who’ve carried american “democracy” on our backs? African Americans, Latines, Native Americans, Asian Americans. the white folks protesting the past 50 years have been mostly LGBTQI & old hippies. for a group averse to confrontation, white middle class Americans are one protest away from creating the history altering critical mass this country needs.

@blogdiva The only naysayer I've read is somebody on here I respect greatly and agree with on most things. But she has pretty intense contempt for No Kings because she feels its performative. That might be true but I think it kinda doesn't matter. It's working. Just look at the ridiculous crap the Magas do and say.

@ohmu @blogdiva people say something is performative to dismiss it. But sometimes the performance matters. We are creatures of story and theatre. Making a show of something grabs attention. It shows those who feel the same that they are not alone. It shows those who disagree that they are not unchallenged. It builds solidarity, momentum, and courage. It's also patronising and unrealistic to imply that the performance is the only thing people are doing. How many small conversations are they having with friends and family, that either bolster or challenge? How many more will happen because of the spectacle? How many voices will find the courage to speak out next time a colleague says something off?Performative implies empty. The performances I've seen are anything but.

@jetlagjen Yeah, I agree. I read someone saying they preferred calling it a "demonstration" rather than a protest, and the more I think about it, the more I like it: we demonstrated. We demonstrated that when the Trump Administration called us radical terrorists or paid agitators or whatever they think "Antifa" is, they were transparently lying, because what we were was everyone's neighbors. We demonstrated that they're nothing but ten pounds of bullshit in a five pound bag. @blogdiva
