I'm watching what I say but I'm cassandra complex'ing pretty hard over here as a user, who *was* on Blacksky, got banned by Bluesky for criticizing Jay Graber about transphobia, and no longer shows up on Blacksky either (based on current infrastructure) https://bsky.app/profile/aliafonzy.blacksky.app/post/3m2hlsjg3fc2y https://bsky.app/profile/aliafonzy.blacksky.app/post/3m2hmedu3d22y https://bsky.app/profile/aliafonzy.blacksky.app/post/3m2ht4i4ztc2y

I think it's important to read carefully: Blacksky is great, and they've got the entire ATmosphere's hopes pinned on them (which is frankly an unfair burden), and this is Bluesky's fault not Blacksky'sBut it does show that "credible exit" has yet to be achieved, let alone decentralization

This is an observation about the present. But we're coming up close to a year since I wrote my original articles about how decentralized Bluesky ishttps://dustycloud.org/blog/how-decentralized-is-bluesky/https://dustycloud.org/blog/re-re-bluesky-decentralization/Some things *have* improved, and Blacksky is largely to praise for that. Still tho...

I will probably follow up at the 1 year mark on my articles to assess: how much holds true, how much has improved, etcBut by and large, I think the things I wrote and the concerns I laid out remain accurate.

@cwebber fwiw I built a site to put numbers behind this kind of thing - for the time being it only looks at the distribution of users on PDSes (obviously as you know this is only part of the picture but it's the part for which quality numbers are available)https://arewedecentralizedyet.online/

@ricci Even if the PDSes were decentralised, wouldn't they still rely on Bluesky's centralised relay infrastructure?

@FediThing yes, and the appview. And yes people are bringing these up at a rapid rate, but the problem Christine points out still exists

@ricci I mean, I'm agreeing with Christine, that there doesn't seem to be any meaningful independent decentralisation on Bluesky at the moment?

@FediThing I'd say that (a) there is significantly more than there was a year ago, and (b) it is demonstrably not enough
