He wrote to Dan Jarvis, the Labour security minister, saying he would be “very grateful to receive assurance from the current government that the threat posed by Palestine Action continues to be fully recognised by our security services and that appropriate action is being taken.”https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/aug/05/lord-dannatt-urged-ministers-to-crack-down-on-palestine-action-at-request-of-us-firm/2

TWOOver 300 members of Jewish society, including such figures as Michael Rosen, Gillian Slovo, Alexei Sayle and Andrew Feinstein, will present a letter to the prime minister and home secretary. describing the proscription of the direct action group Palestine Action as "illegitimate and unethical". It would be churlish of me to point out Feinstein was a former member of Mandela’s African National Congress and a Member of Parliament of South Africa./3

THREEKamali Melbourne of Sky News interviewed the Home Secretary. She said, “The proscription of Palestine Action is based on detailed security advice”, but the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre has not produced ANY documents that say anything like that. Moreover, when she spoke in Parliament on June 23rd, all she said was “The UK’s defence enterprise is vital to the nation’s national security and this Government will not tolerate those who put that security at risk”/4

One would have thought there would be at least something, anything that indicates my country being put at risk. Further, she, for the first time, went on to say that she has seen “details about future planning” but how can that be because since July 2nd the group has essentially disbanded. It does not make sense.https://hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2025-06-23/debates/25062337000014/PalestineActionProscription?highlight=uk%20defence%20enterprise#contribution-1DA022E7-FAD4-45F7-826A-190F733D8771/5

So my question to you remains. Are we acting to protect business, as point one alludes to, or are we acting to prevent terrorism for which on the 20th July at the High Court a statement from The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre was read out saying: “the majority of direct action by Palestine Action would not be classified as terrorism… but does often involve criminality” /6

and they go on to say, “The JTAC documents also indicate how national security concerns were not a central factor in the Home Office’s decision to proscribe. Indeed, they barely feature in the government’s open evidence.”/7

On that day, Mr Justice Chamberlain granted permission for an appeal because he said the proscription of Palestine Action is a disproportionate interference with Article 10 (freedom of expression) and Article 11 (freedom of assembly) of the European Convention on Human Rights. The Claimant raised important points about the significant chilling effect on free speech that would result from the order, particularly during the ongoing genocide in Gaza./8
