issues i'd never thought i have to deal with: we used some dip switches that have two markings: 1 and ON. that's already confusing for computer people because in their mind, "1" also means "on" (binary on/active/high). now we have a new batch of keyboards where these got mounted upside down. people read the ON as NO. so they think it's 1 (on) and NO (off). everything goes wrong. i'm so tired and need to sleep. sirens in the distance

@mntmn alternative explanation is that it's octane number. value of one would be worst fuel ever! (aviation fuel tends to have 100)

@mntmn We have perfectly labeled DIP switches. But the manual… it has drawings with each switch represented as a rectangle with half black and the other half white. I can't tell which color is supposed to represent the switch position unless I compare the drawings to the switches on a working system.

@mntmn There is a tiiiiny bit of space left on the board -- maybe printing something on the silk screen would avoid having to decipher what the print on the DIP switch means? I had the exact same confusion you describe when reading the label. Even if the silk screen print is tiny: i rather get out a magnifying glass than having to search for the PDF documenting this. This was already confusing for imx8mq sd/emmc boot switch: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-handbook/-/issues/2

@josch sure, but when it's on the silkscreen, the orientation of the switch really matters :D

@mntmn But is that not a good thing? Or is it tricky to have the switches all mounted the same way?

@josch you're right of course. we should've hand-resoldered all these on the current batch, but it would have taken additional time and effort. if the switch itself was labeled on/off, it would be clearer
