Got it apart. Added solder to try to reconnect the ground on the broken BNC's. Replaced the backlight.... but it's not the CCFL that is bad, it seems to be a bad driver circuit. Now I'm heading down a rabbit hole. I don't have a schematic, so I'm just going to shotgun in the capacitor that seems to have failed for other folks:https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tektronix-tds220-backlight-not-working/Ordered a few from digikey. If that doesn't work I'll try an LED strip replacement:http://hxc2001.free.fr/tektronix_tds220/index.html

I have a hobby, it's called finding lost tools. In this case I'm going to practice my hobby not with a tool, but with this little button. We'll call it a game. Maybe: "button, button, who's got the button?"Are you ready for a little story? Here goes.

I followed the first step to the T. When removing the handle I also broke off the tab just like he did in the video. :-)If it had been rotated closed before I tried to pop it free it would have come out with very little force.

Okay, let's start with the "where's waldo" version of the game. Your job is to find the button in this picture. My hobby is to find lost tools. This is just practice for me.In this picture I'm showing off my new power strip, because the power strip I added to my bench a few months back was full. I knew how to fix that: I just bought another one and put it next to the first. It's like by hard drive storage. Just add more when >50% full. It's cheap.Do you like my bench power? #ratemysetup

Let's take a step back, earlier in the day, before I really got to practice my hobby (looking for lost tools). I had to remove this package that I had set on top of my bench. It was in the way of looking for stuff. This package makes me happy. This company does not seem to be suffering from #enshittification Is that true, or is it just me? There are good companies out there still right? In order to look for tools I must clear my bench. So I opened it up to remove the capacitors inside.

But before I put the caps in my storage area (to be able to look for tools on my bench) I need to put one of them in this power supply that's been sitting on my bench. These new ones are much bigger. I didn't check the dimensions too closely when ordering. But I knew this is through-hole, so there should be space enough.

I clipped a lead on the old cap and desoldered the other pin and pulled it free. Alt text for more fun.

#gardening Pulling out old capacitors is like pulling out dandelions. (Or picking boogers.) When you get a good one it gives a nice little dopamine hit, and you look at it with admiration and look forward to the next one.Look at that little bugger. It looks blackened from heat. No wonder it's not happy.More story in alt text.

Almost able to put this sucker back together so I can look under it for tools: that's my hobby, remember: looking for lost tools.I don't spend enough time on my hobby. I end up distracted by other tasks like this that literally get in the way.If only I could clear this bench I could look for tools. I love looking for tools.#catsofmastodon #caturday

Thread complete.Scope fixed. And I put stuff away around my desk, moved an old computer monitor abandoned on the floor, threw out a collection of trash, looked here, there, and everywhere until I found the button. I didn't know it was missing until this final step, but it represents the pinnacle achievement of my hobby! Finding that button was critical. Without it I would not have had this immense feeling of completion of this little projectDid you find the button in the picture earlier?
