@_elena It's really amazing how the Fediverse is ignored in so many aspects of society. I'm constantly emailing companies and organizations explaining the Fediverse and asking them to create profiles. If I had to guestimate I'd say my success rate is about 1%. At least it's something. More than zero is better than zero.

@_elena I think the Fediverse is fine as is. An influx of people that don't understand the culture here and think social media is free is the last thing we need. Let people find us organically when they've had enough of corporate social media. We don't need to chase users. Slow, organic, growth is best, especially for what is essentially a volunteer run network.

@_elena btw maybe it is a good idea to focus on the fediverse as a whole instead of pixelfed being a 1-to-1 replacement for instagram because then they will just open it and see "hmm. not so much action here" and then don't take it seriously.your video beautifully explains how it is just one small piece of the beatiful fedi-puzzle.

@_elena In US corporate media only topics and subjects that sell advertisers products and services are covered. No real news, just infotainment for commercial interests.I found out about mastodon, pixelfed and freetube software through a youtube channel where I follow open source software channels.

@_elena it's not just mainstream newspapers. When I land on any website these days I look to see if it has a fedi presence or at least a share to fedi option. Unverified summary: at least 95% of the sites I visit do not.

@_elena Fortunately, not all are ignoring it. The Boston Globe is covering it, along with other unhappy-for-Trump news. It's also owned by a billionaire, but a Democrat. It's the only U.S. newspaper I subscribe to now.I don't know how to fix this. To avoid the government taking over the media, a power-hungry billionaire Klan just decided to buy all the media, after removing the laws that would stop them from doing this. Then the control of the media was unquestionably legal. They planned this.The majority of the people just don't seem to care that this is happening, nor that they idiotically allowed it. @_elena much of the surviving newspapers and commercial media have learnt to use social media to their favour. Social networking, human-to-human interactions are not good for them. Mass media relies directly on people's inability to organically communicate and coordinate effectively. Fediverse is bad for them. Even at the peak of migrations to Fedi, you'll notice the intentional disregard and belittling done in several formats across mass media. It simply is not good for business.

W/o knowing what the IG articles angle was, the best way to get a reporter's attention w a story is to make a direct, strong connection between their viewer, your story idea, & the present moment, like "what does this have to do with my viewer and why should they drop what theyre doing to hear me out about it?" Also unfortunately the story loses "compelling-ness points" if its about a product youre trying to pitch to their audience, which in this case, Fedi is
