Dear Fedi friends,By now you might have seen the post announcing the release of my promotional video for the Fediverse. @_elena Wow, great job, very well put together. I feel that the video is very approachable by regular people, which is exactly what's needed.And I like that you didn't go for the "big corps are trying to bury these networks" angle, but rather went for the more human "made by regular people, without marketing budgets" theme. 👍I was a bit worried after all the preceding hype, but I think you delivered... and then some. :) Thank you!

@_elena congrats, it looks great! All the motion design you did really paid off, it makes it so much easier to follow. I feel like no matter how much you try to "dumb it down" it's still a hard subject to explain to the lay person.I love that there is https://jointhefediverse.net so helpful!I'm not European, but maybe in a future update/continuation you could focus on building data sovereignty outside the big US tech firms 🤷♂️

wow, this is an awesome, beautiful, amazing piece of work! I was still crying throughout the credits! thank you thank you thank you!in Portuguese, we use the word 'curta' to mean both 'short' (as in short-length movie) and 'like' (as in favorite a post). this wordplay has been used in short-length movie festivals before, but I feel the video deserves very much both labels 🙂 as in, I found it very very likable, and I also found myself wishing for a lot more like it. thank again! kudos!

@_elena What a fantastic video! Loved it. I would also really welcome similar revolution on hardware/software platforms. Apple and Google are both in the business of making money (which is understood and mostly accepted) but what options do we have if we want to ‘de-centralise’ our gear? Google are harvesting data and content for their Ai, and Apple have connections with mining in the DRC, and labour practices that would certainly not be acceptable in the western markets they thrive in. Ideas?

Great work @_elena! A couple of notes.There's significant work to done to enable the full account portability implied by "you own your own data". That's certainly the future we aspiring to here. But unless you are the admin of your own server, for now it's more accurate to say 'your server admins owns your data'.Also, there isn't really a full replacement for FarceBook yet. Comparing Friendica to FB sets expectations that often don't match the reality. Which isn't really fair to Friendica.

@_elena That’s fantastic news. I keep seeing those pop up in adverts - the Jolla phone. I’m really pleased to see you’re looking at hardware too. I saw in the news this morning that several areas in Germany and Denmark have moved away from US tech for their Public Sector workers, and are now migrating to open-source. It’s an exciting space!

@_elena this is so cool! What did you use for the VFX/animations? I think the visuals go a long way in holding attention to spread the message 😁One small suggestion: maybe show a few screenshots earlier on, rather than just the icons, so people can see the variety of what's there? Perhaps you could parade half a dozen of the different platforms on phone screens as part of the animation (no need to talk directly about it; what you did at the end was good enough for that) 📱📱📱
