@dansup I am having trouble understanding why you are asking this question on a platform where people gather because there are no influencers or ads.

@dansup Uff please no. AS soon as you add money to anything - the behaviour changes. And not necesarily to the better.

@dansup No. I don't think ads are a sustainable business model and don't support them in any way.

@dansup Hmm, as a writer.. I wish there was a donation system linked to fediverse, wow that would be so nice. Here's a tip for Mastodon

@dansup A fat no regarding ads, there are better ways of supporting content creators. I'd rather pay for extra content behind a paywall than have ads.

@dansup Thank you for taking the time to reply.Speaking of my experience, not for anyone else...Fediverse is unique in that most people I know here are "free-thinkers" and by that I mean shy away from influencers. We gather for discussions not to be lectured or have someone "tell" us we "must" think the same. No I do not agree about popular posts. I do not care to read popular posts. Sometimes I check what subject is trending however I don't actively search out related posts or posters. (And numbers of followers aren't important,;I try to keep mine down because it's is quality of engagement not quantity that is my priority) It would make me very sad to see this place turn into a replica of other Soc..M. sites and this "feels" like a step in that direction.Lastly, this is an open platform and each instance is free to move in whatever direction it pleases and that is the best aspect of Fediverse, so do what makes you happy, don't allow grumpy old people like me influence your choice😉

@dansup I feel like you should have been more clear with the question, most people here associate ads with tracking which is a absolute nono in my book but ads in general when it comes to more hardware intensive hosting than just text (should have probably added that as well) would be a must if we ever want Peertube and co. to have any kind of success long term!

@dansup I'm not against ads, but giving money only to popular creators is a problem, because promotes low-quality contents : those creators should be selected for the content they create and not for the likes they have.

@dansup I'm sorry but nobody, never, nowhere says : "I miss the ads".

@dansup please no. One of the best things about Fedi is the lack of ads which have become so ubiquitous in everyday life that their absence is noticeable. I tend to be less likely to buy products or patronize companies who constantly assault me with their nonsense.

@dansup yes in theory, but tracking etc would be a deterrent, and in practice my ad blocker is on 24/7
