       #Solotober2024 is upon us!For those unaware, #Solotober is a challenge to play solo #BoardGames every day during the month of October. It doesn't matter whether it's multi-handed, using a solo mode, or whatever, as long as you're the only player.I'm going to up the challenge a little and try to play a *different* game each day. I'll be using this thread to post my plays and keep myself accountable. Most of my early plays will be light, as I'm travelling this week.

       #Solotober Day 1 - Ancient RealmA nice 18 card civ builder. Build your realm by laying cards out, hire citizens and acquire resources by covering them with a card and paying their cost in gold. I'm still new to this game and it's my first time introducing the Leaders expansion into the mix. I ended up with a loss at 47 (55 points were required to win with Xenophon).

       #Solotober Day 2 - Old Town Road52 points today, which is ok, but some 20 points off my best. (A straight flush would have helped.)In this in-hand game by the same designer as Galdor's Grip, you have a hand of outlaws, lawmen, and banks. You try to shoot (or rob) characters/banks in order to form 3-card poker hands.I enjoy this one for short downtime plays. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a scale to compare your score to. The designer has said he might revisit this in 2025.

       #Solotober Day 3 - ROVEYou're a robot explorer in an alien landscape. In order to traverse the land, you must complete missions by moving your stuff modules to specified configurations using the movement cards in your hand with each module having unique moves. It's a little like a chess problem in that you're trying to go from a starting position to an ending position within a minimal number of moves.Only 7 missions complete today, but this is one of my favorite smaller #boardGames

       #Solotober Day 4 - Aqua ROVEFollowing yesterday's entry is ROVE's adaptation into its new form. In this #boardgames rework, the movement rules are particular to the cards, rather than unique to the modules. It took me a couple games for it to click, but it's going much better now that I have some games behind me. (Here, I'm one movement point away from completing 10 missions. 7 is considered a win.)

       #Solotober Day 5 - Mysticana: Cave of DjinnsTwo parts to talk about on this one. Mysticana is an 18-card alternate playing deck where each card has an element, (2) a rank, and (3) a type. Using these, you can make games, much like a poker deck has multiple uses.Cave of Djinns is a 6-card expansion for Mysticana, where you have Djinn cards in a triangle array, each with a "riddle" that needs to be satisfied by placing cards around it before it can be covered. Cover all six and you win!

       #Solotober Day 6 - Ugly Gryphon InnYou're a fantasy innkeeper and need to carefully move patrons from the bar (left) to the inn (center), while balancing the patrons' quirks against other patrons' irks.I tend to add in the Little Beak Guesthouse and Local Dragons expansions for my preferred difficulty. I lost this one pretty early: Sleepy the Grey Dragon woke up and torched my Inn.

Use your cards to craft spells to overcome various enemies or journeys. At the end, use multiple spells at once to defeat your chosen dragon.This is a print-and-play edition. I anticipate backing the Chip Theory version when it launches in spring.#BoardGames
