he just walks right on up to
me and says you know i think
your poetry's much better than
your prose
and i think it would be easier for
the both of us and more enjoyable
if you worked on it for your thesis.
i look up and say
okay i don't have a problem with that
and i didn't i don't
but in the back of my mind i could hear myself
thinkingin the back of my mind:
shit boy what the hell you becoming a
poet for poets don't make no money they jump
off bridges and stuff you ain't got no right being
a poet you're scared of heights.
