A good basic intro can be found at

there). This is my 2yr old Introduction to Virtual Reality. You can also
still find it as part of the US Congress Office of Technology Accessment
document "Virtual Reality and Technologies for Combat Simulation" at
ftp://otabbs.ota.gov/pub/vr.military (a web version is in ..../hypertext)
