If you really want to and you are willing to share the process as much as
you can (which means the tech person has to be good enough to imagine
different answers to problems and to suggest things you weren't aware of),
I think you can easily generate interest.

Not all engineers want to tinker with radios in a dark basement somewhere.
The good engineers I have met tend to be brilliantly creative. Their design
skill often suck, but creativity isn't limited to visual design.
