                           REMEMBER the 1950's
                           wdbonner@pacbell.net

I know some of you are not old enough to remember but this email below
was put together in a great way, hope you enjoy it. Remember this?

The following were some comments made in the 1950's.

     (1) "I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are,
its going to be impossible to buy a weeks groceries for $20.00."

     (2) "Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be
long until $5,000 will only buy a used one."

     (3) "If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A
     quarter a pack is ridiculous."

     (4) "Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime
     just to mail a letter?"

     (5) "If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to
hire outside help at the store."

     (6) "When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would
someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the
     car in the garage,"

     (7) "Kids today are impossible. Those ducktail hair cuts make it
impossible to stay groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing
their hair as long as the girls,"

     (8) "I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since
they let Clark Gable get by with saying damn in "Gone With The Wind",
it seems every new movie has either hell or damn in it."

     (9) "I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible
to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have
some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas."

     (10) "Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract
for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if
someday that they will be making more than the President."

     (10) "Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract
for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if
someday that they will be making more than the President."

     (11) "I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances
would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now."

     (12) "It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few
married women are having to work to make ends meet."
     FIDONEWS 20-26 Page 3 30 Jun 2003

     (13) "It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire
someone to watch their kids so they can both work."

     (15) "I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to
a whole lot of foreign business."

     (16) "Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government
takes half our pay income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are
electing the best people to Congress."

     (17) "The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I
seriously doubt they will ever catch on."

     (18) "There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a
weekend. It costs nearly $15.00 a night to stay in a motel."

     (19) "No one can afford to be sick any more, $35.00 a day in the
hospital is too rich for my blood."

     (20) "I hear there is a new thing called a IBM Computer, and every
school will have one called Apple".

Just imagine... that was about thirty years before Fidonet folks! I
paid $1.94 a gallon for regular gas yesterday, and weekly grocery bill
is well over $120. for two and relatives visiting one meal. My
electric bill is now about $230. a 60 day billing period. I only paid
$127.84 a month for house payments 40 years ago! Now one utility bill
is as much per month. I could go on and on, but each of you could
     too! <G>

     Warm regards,
     Ol'wdb

     GO GIT YO MAMMA!

A redneck family from the hills was visiting the city and they were in
a mall for the first time in their life. The father and son were
strolling around while the wife shopped. They were amazed by almost
everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that
could move apart and then slide back together again.

The boy asked, "Paw, What's 'at?"

The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, "Son, I dunno. I
ain't never seen anything like that in my entire life, I ain't got no
     idea'r what it is."

While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old
lady in a wheel chair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a
button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small
room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small
circular numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued
to watch until it reached the last number and then the numbers began
to light in the reverse order.

Then the walls opened up again and a gorgeous, voluptuous 24-year-old
blonde woman stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the
young woman, said quietly to his Son, "Boy, go git yo Momma.........

                              >>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<

A pastor, really needing to go to the bathroom, walked into a
neighborhood pub. The place was hopping with music and dancing but
every once in a while the lights would turn off. Each time after the
lights would go out the place would erupt into cheers. However, when
the revelers saw the town pastor, the room went dead silent. He walked
up to the bartender, and asked, "May I please use the restroom?"

The bartender replied, "I really don't think you should." "Why not?"
the pastor asked. "Well, there is a statue of a naked woman in there,
and her most private part is covered only by a fig leaf." "Nonsense,"
said the pastor, "I'll just look the other way." So the bartender
showed the clergyman the door at the top of the stairs, and he
     proceeded to the restroom.

After a few minutes, he came back out, and the whole place was hopping
with music and dancing again. However, they did stop just long enough
to give the pastor a loud round of applause.

He went to the bartender and said, "Sir, I don't understand. Why did
they applaud for me just because I went to the restroom?"

     FIDONEWS 20-26 Page 5 30 Jun 2003

"Well, now they know you're one of us." said the bartender. "Would you
     like a drink?"

"But, I still don't understand," said the puzzled pastor.

"You see," laughed the bartender, "every time the fig leaf is lifted
on the statue, the lights go out in the whole place. Now, how about
     that drink?"

                                 <<<<<<<<>>>>>>>

The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully
dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably
coifed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind,
moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed
     away, making the move necessary.

After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing
home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready.

As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, the attendant provided a
visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that
had been hung on her window. "I love it," she stated with the
enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new
     puppy.

"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room .... just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied. "Happiness is
something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not
doesn'tdepend on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how I arrange
my mind. I already decided to love it... It's a decision I make every
morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed
recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no
longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.
Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new
day and all the happy memories I've stored away ... just for this time
     in my life."

Old age is like a bank account ... you withdraw from what you've put
in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the
     bank account of memories.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

     1. Free your heart from hatred. 2. Free your mind from worries. 3.
Live simply. 4. Give more. 5. Expect less.

No one can go back and make a brand new start. Anyone can start from
now and make a brand new ending. God didn't promise days without pain,
laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength
for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.

Disappointments are like road bumps, they slow you down a bit but you
enjoy the smooth road afterwards. Don't stay on the bumps too long.
     Move on!
     FIDONEWS 20-26 Page 6 30 Jun 2003

When something happens to you, good or bad, consider what it means.
There's a purpose to life's events, to teach you how to laugh more or
     not to cry too hard.

You can't make someone love you, all you can do is be someone who can
be loved, the rest is up to the person to realize your worth.

It's better to lose your pride to the one you love, than to lose the
one you love because of pride.

We spend too much time looking for the right person to love or finding
fault with those we already love, when instead we should be perfecting
     the love we give.

Never abandon an old friend. You will never find one who can take
his/her place. Friendship is like wine, it gets better as it grows
     older.

     Ol'wdb

                            How to Submit an Article

If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
     will appear in the Fidonews:

     a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
        probably quite OK...

     b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
        personal comments.

     c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 12:00 UTC.

Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
extension of the correct subject on the file name if known..

     Ideas for Subject areas:

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.

If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.
