                      The Fido World Today
                      wdbonner@pacbell.net

Let's see if I understand how the Fidonews world works lately...

If a Fidonetter reads the Fidonews and decides it is unworthy of his
time as it isn't interesting to him, it does not 'fill the bill' he
envisions the newsletter should, he 'slams' the editor.

Editor: One who is in charge of a publication, accepts or rejects the
items, articles, and materials for publications. An editor is not the
source of the information except in the 'editorial' column.

If there is nothing in Fidonews except recipes and a joke as I have
read, then why not use some of your energy to fill in the missing
parts? The editor can only publish that which is submitted to him, he
cannot make up the issue himself.

If folks with a fidonet node number were intent on keeping it as a
viable entity, they should contribute with items of interest. It is
your own responsibility to make your fidonews carry interesting
materials. If you contribute nothing... you get nothing. I do not
agree that fidonews should be cut to biweekly or monthly editions.
Some of you good folks could easily give the assistance needed.

If your neighbor crashes into a tree while driving home drunk, he
blames the bartender, but in fido it's "blame the editor''. If your
children or grandchildren are brats without manners, you blame
television, the schools, anyone except your own self. You should
evaluate what you have contributed before blaming the editor.

If you don't like what you read in Fidonews, it is very easy to change
it. All you have to do is give a few minutes of your time to thinking
about what it needs and sit down and write an article on it. That
would make the editor very happy, and you would make a lot of
     fidonetters happy!

If your friend is shot by a deranged madman, or an innocent child,
you blame the gun manufacturer, and if your Fidonews editor asks for
an item or article of some merit or interest, you disregard the
request as it takes too much time, or you are too busy now, maybe
     tomorrow...

I must have lived too long to understand the world as it is anymore.
So, if I die while my old, wrinkled butt is parked in front of this
computer, I want you to blame Bill Gates...okay? [G]

     Warm Regards, Ol'wdb

                               Bad luck

A woman's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for
several months, yet she stayed by his bedside every single day. When
he came to, he motioned for her to come nearer.

As she sat by him, he said, "You know what? You have been with me
all through the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support
me. When my business failed, you were there. When I got shot, you were
by my side. When we lost the house, you gave me support. When my
health started failing, you were still by my side... You know what?"

        "What dear?" She asked gently.

"I think you bring me bad luck."

                             Giving up
                         Bob Crowninshield

A man was walking in the city, when he was accosted by a particularly
dirty and shabby-looking bum who asked him for a couple of dollars for
     dinner.

The man took out his wallet, extracted two dollars and asked, "If I
gave you this money, will you take it and buy whiskey?"

"No, I stopped drinking years ago," the bum said.

"Will you use it to gamble?"

"I don't gamble. I need everything I can get just to stay alive."

"Will you spend the money on fishing tickets on a 'head boat'?"

"Are you NUTS! I haven't fished in 20 years!"

The man said, "Well, I'm not going to give you two dollars. Instead,
I'm going to take you to my home for a terrific dinner cooked by my
     wife."

     The bum was astounded.

"Won't your wife be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty,
and I probably! smell pretty bad."

The man replied, "Hey, man, that's OK! I just want her to see what a
man looks like who's given up drinking, gambling, and fishing!

                            How to Submit an Article

If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
     will appear in the Fidonews:

     a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
        probably quite OK...

     b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
        personal comments.

     c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 12:00 UTC.

Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
extension of the correct subject on the file name if known..

     Ideas for Subject areas:

         Subject File | Subject File
     ----------------------------------|----------------------------------
From the *C's *.css | Rebuttals to articles *.reb

Retractions *.rtx | General Fidonet Articles *.art

Fidonet Classified Ads *.ads | Corrections *.cor
      Best of Fidonet *.bof |

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.

If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.
