                               REGIONAL NEWS
     =================================================================

                Regional news, R53 - Monday, 20-th August 2001.
                                 From Region 53

Last Saturday a big regional sysop meeting, it was dedicated to the
problems of the region and the individual nets. Representatives from
Bucharest, Galati, Iasi, Sibiu and all the segment of Brasov attended
the meeting. Questions about building separate nets for each province
     - Center, Banat, Ardeal, Transilvania, Moldova, Oltenia - were
considered. Some towns' representatives made suggestion to build
separate net for the SMS nodes. The Region 53 coordination staff
rejected this proposal for the reason that SMS-only nodes have
telephone number and it's not rational to make a separate net. It was
considered to make a big regional sysop, dedicated to 1-st September
     (the wedding-day of one RC).

Region 53 coordination staff expressed their special thanks to all the
net' members, who worked on the widening of the network. Moreover
special thanks were given to the net members - TV workers, who made a
telecast about FidoNet and an advertising of the net. The
intraregional matter found decision at 60%.

One more time the Region Pointlist Keeper was changed and now Angela
Lupu (2:531/5), the future wife of the RC, will be handling the
pointlists. Region 53 coordination staff asks all nodes to send in
time their segments and not to ignore the regional pointlist.

Our region widened again - Andrey Chebanov (2:53/2) from Sofia joined
us. We hope Bulgaria will have soon it's one net. Now Andrey Chebanov
will be the Romania-Bulgaria fidonews editor.

                                 By Frank Vest
                                 1:124/6308(.1)

It's another one of those days. I'm reading mail when, in an
administrative echo, there appears a message that draws me in. I just
     have to comment on it.

I'm going to try to be civil about this, but it is a serious concern
     to me and, maybe, others.

The question was asked: "Just wondering if the dog has died?".

The message went on to talk about the fidonet.org site and the work
that is obviously _not_ being done to it. The links are still out of
date and the Zone links are not totally accurate. There was mention of
a new webmaster for the site that I believe stems from a statement by
the IC some time back. The statement indicated a new webmaster,
permission from George Peace to update the site and a few other
     things.

This topic has come up before. It has been addressed and re-addressed
to no avail. Isn't it time we got some answers?

I challenge the Coordinators to get together and give some answers.

Those that are supposed to be leaders, elected officials, Nodelist
Clerks, in power or wish/not to be any or all of the aforementioned
need to figure this thing out and make something happen. At least put
something in the public eye to let us lowly Nodes know that they care
and are trying. A progress report would be nice... a regular progress
     report would be better.

No progress or progress reports can, and do, lead to the conclusion
     that no one cares. :(

     Regards,

      Frank

                               Some "News" things.
                                From Frank Vest
                                   1:124/6308

My original goal when I accepted the Fidonews Editor position was to
improve the Fidonews. Not saying that it was bad... just that I think
     everyone wants to improve things.

One way I hoped to improve the Fidonews was to get people involved in
submitting articles. To some degree, that has both happened and not
happened. Anyway, in hopes of getting some articles... or at least
some news, I've added two sections to the Fidonews. I thought I'd try
them out and see what happens.

One is a "Regional News" section for such things as... well...
Regional News. :) Does your Region create a "Regional Newsletter??
How about something that has happened in your Region. Maybe an
announcement of a new Net formed or a new Node added? Could be a
Regional election... or the results of one.

The other area is "Net News". This follows the "Regional News" area,
but more for Nets. Same idea applies.

So.... If your Region or Net has some news. send it in. :-)

     Regards,

      Frank

                            How to Submit an Article

If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
     are the -=_guidelines_=-:

No more than 70 characters per line. This includes spaces.

     No right or left margins.

Plain ASCII text _only_. Good rule is: If you can't type it on a plain
     typewriter, don't use it.

Put a title to the article and your name.
      1. Put the title in two times. The first time should be with an *
before it and the second time, on a separate line, without the *.
This will help in the format since the title with the * is removed
and used in the index and the other one will remain and show what the
      article is about.

Articles that contain vulgar language will not be accepted. (the only
real rule in this whole thing)

Deadline for article submission is Saturday, 12:00 midnight (24:00
hours) according to _my_ clock. I'm in the Central Time Zone in the
U.S.A. That's GMT-6. Articles received after the deadline will appear
     in the next Fidonews.

Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. The file name can be anything up
to 8 characters. Please help by putting the file extension of the
correct subject on the file name if known..

     Ideas for Subject areas:

         Subject File | Subject File

Classified Ads *.ads | Fidonet Software Reviews *.sof
      Corrections *.cor |

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.

If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.

Send Articles via E-mail or Netmail, file attach or message to:

     Frank Vest

     E-Mail; flv@texoma.net

Please leave me a message telling me that you have sent an article.
That way I will know to look for it.
