SDF's gopher server is presently down. It was up earlier today, and I'm guessing it will be back up shortly. Still, it is interesting to note how much of the gopher world is not available when SDF is down. For what I read/follow, it is significant. Jandal mentioned in his microphlog that someone in person noted that they had read his gopher post[1]. That is a sign that he's hanging out with an excellent crowd! I have mentioned gopher to several people, with no uptake. There is a small discussion/philosophy group that I'm a part of, and I posted some notes from it here on gopher, then shared a link with that group (a gopher proxy link, of course) but even then there was no interest. At least not that I know of. You'd think a group of people interested in philosophy would dig the idea of gopher... Mijk recently (in the past few weeks) added a phlog and some other content. He talked about pruning apple trees in the cold[2]. I live in an area that used to be covered in apple orchards, back in the early 1900's. Some of the trees are still around, mostly in the back yards of the families that settled the area. They're big trees, and when I drive past them recently I've been thinking "those really could use a pruning..." Now I need to spend some time reading Mijk's story/start that he posted around the same time. [1] gopher://grex.org/0/~jandal/microphlog [2] gopher://grex.org/0/~mijk/phlog/cold-prune
