User papa on grex has a photo of "GopherVR" in action on his phlog. It looked interesting, so I downloaded the source to compile on Linux. I had to also download and compile the Motif (2.3.8) sources, but apart from that building GopherVR was quite easy. That was nice, since old programs can sometimes be a bear to compile! I've browsed the gopher world just a little with the clunky VR system. Maybe that's not fair... for what it is, it's actually quite easy to use, and mildly interesting. I recall a time when the "3D desktop" was going to be the "next big thing." This looks like an iteration of that idea. I'll have to play with it some more, to see if I can get good control over it. The text is a little difficult to read, especially at extreme angles. Items aren't spaced well for easy access. But, all in all, it's fun and interesting, like so many things.
