G4 LAUNCHING NEW 'VIDEO GAMER' ORIENTED CHANNEL (Posted 2008-04-01 13:11:41 by basscomm) Young men's programming network G4 [ http://www.g4tv.com/ ] has announced today that they will be sallying forth with a new initiative to bring video game oriented programming back to the limelight with an Internet-only television network. Tentatively called "G24-7" this new network will feature on-demand shows featuring news, reviews, and video game-centric shows from the familiar sources, but will also feature work done by the community. Shows like 'Machinima World', for example, will highlight the very best that the machinima community [ http://www.machinima.com/ ] has to offer and 'Video Game Rev-YOU' will feature the best user reviews from their community sites. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "We're very excited to finally be able to announce this project. We've heard your pleas for more video game programming, but realize that most of you use your television for playing video games instead of watching our shows. That's why we've decided to move the whole works onto the Internet, it just cries out for this type of programming." -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= I don't know about you, but this announcement of a network that's being programmed by gamers for gamers makes me happy inside. -------- There is 1 comment on this post: Comment #1 by brc64 ( ) on 2008-04-01 13:28:58 While it sounds awesome, and will be if they can pull it off successfully, I worry that they will just fall into the same trap G4 did when they came out. The video game industry is fairly large, but I don't think it's big enough to provide enough content to fill 7 days of television programming a week. Honestly, I just want them to bring back ZDTV/TechTV. A channel dedicated to technology in general would have far more material to draw from than one dedicated to just a small subset of it. There would be plenty of room for video game content, but also room for some other great programming. But it's not like my opinion matters, so oh well.
