THE PRICES ARE FALLING! (Posted 2003-09-26 17:55:42 by basscomm) Sure, a price drop in a console is usually a nice thing. It makes the console more affordable to the masses. However, dropping the price when you are already the price leader is a bad sign. I've made it no secret that I am a Nintendo fan boy. They just made the games that I wanted to play over the other systems. Slowly, though, over the last several years, Nintendo has, I'm afraid, chased off too much of it's own audience. Nintendo has the handheld market locked up pretty tightly. The only game that the Cube has online, you can also get on the Box. But the one thing I'm going to have to disagree with is: "Then Microsoft came along with its XBox, Sony released the PS2, and Nintendo... just sat around. They took a back seat to see what the market would do (or so I understand), and waited way too long to release the GameCube. By the time it was released, lots of people had XBoxes and PS2s, and wouldn't (or couldn't) spend another $200 on another console." PS2 was released in 2000, and the Xbox was released 11/15/01. Going by your statement, Nintendo didn't sit around too long, because the Gamecube was released 11/22/03. Because it was released only 1 week after the Box. :) Comment #2 by basscomm ( basscomm@crummysocks.com ) on 2003-09-27 20:56:00 Yeah, my memory doesn't always correctly tell me things. Whether they sat around for a week or a year, they were still the last movers in the market. I have a hard time believing that they couldn't have beaten Microsoft's street date if they really wanted to. But I think, sadly, that it is far too late for Nintendo to "resurrect" the GameCube. They have dug their own grave by poor marketing decisions. I say we bid farewell to the GameCube, and Nintendo making platforms and have thm makin games and handheld consoles and games. Nintendo has been dethrowned by Sony, and has made very poor attempts at gaining what they created To submit a comment on this post, email basscomm@crummysocks.com or visit us on the web [ http://crummysocks.com ].
