/* Synchronet BBS for Win32 v3.10 Revision K Beta Release */

This is an UPGRADE ONLY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You must have Synchronet v3.xx (any revision) installed prior to upgrading to
v3.10 beta. This release includes all previous updates, patches, etc. as of
November 10th, 2002.
This is a RELEASE CANDIDATE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If there are no show-stopper bugs, this release will become the final official
release of 3.10 (re-packed as a full-install without the "beta" label
obviously), so if you find any new bugs or old bugs that were supposed to
have been fixed, please let me know (rob@synchro.net).

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Shut-down Synchronet if its running.
2. Back-up all of your Synchronet files (this is a BETA release).
   This upgrade may overwrite files you've modified, so be sure to BACK-UP
   any files you've modified (and want to keep) from the CTRL and EXEC
   directories.
3. Unzip all of the files included into your EXEC directory, overwriting
   existing files.
   NOTE: You must use a 32-bit unzip utility (e.g. WinZIP) to get the correct
         filenames!
4. Move the following files to your CTRL directory:
   sbbs.ini
   text.dat
   sbbsimsg.lst
   sockopts.cfg
   services.cfg
   newslink.cfg
   mime_types.cfg
   dns_blacklist.cfg
   You may choose not to overwrite these files if they already exist, but
   NOTE:
        o There is a new UDP-Finger service enabled in the included
	  services.cfg that gives much improved performance for user listings
	  in the Inter-BBS Instant-Message module (sbbsimsg.js).
	o Also in the included services.cfg, hostname look-ups are disabled
	  for the finger services (TCP and UDP). This is done with an options
	  field of "8xx". Hostname look-ups are another source of slow user
	  listings in the instant-message module, so you are encouraged to
	  either use the included services.cfg or change your existing
	  finger services options.
        o As of v3.10 Revision E, there are REQUIRED ctrl/text.dat changes:
          Either copy the included text.dat to your ctrl directory or see
          text310g.dif for the required changes. If you see <UNUSED> anywhere
	  while logged in, you're using the WRONG TEXT.DAT FILE!!!
        o For the NewsLink module to function, you must modify the
	  newslink.cfg file for your needs.
          You will also need a (non-exclusive) timed event with a command-line
	  of "?newslink".
          For details on supported command-line options, see exec/newslink.js.
5. Move OUTPHOTO.EXE into your XTRN/SMM directory.
6. Unzip SBLUTILS.ZIP into your XTRN/SBL directory.
7. For instructions on setting up support for the new Inter-BBS Instant
   Messaging feature, see the included imsgdocs.txt.
8. If you want to play with the "preview version" of the Synchronet Web Server
   you'll have to use the console-mode executable (sbbs.exe) instead of the
   GUI control panel (sbbsctrl.exe). And you'll need to enable the web server
   by removing the semicolon from the "AutoStart=1" line in the [Web] section
   of your ctrl/sbbs.ini file. The Web Server will not become and integral
   part of Synchronet until v3.20.
*** VERY IMPORTANT ***
o The text/relay.can (allowed SMTP relay list) file has been moved
  and renamed to ctrl/relay.cfg. You'll need to move and rename your
  file if you wish to allow users (including yourself) to relay mail
  through your SMTP server. It's okay if you don't have this file.
o If you are still running v2 (for DOS or OS/2), be aware that this release
  includes files SBBS.EXE and SCFG.EXE which WILL overwrite v2 executables
  of the same name unless they are moved to another directory (e.g. exec/dos).
o DO NOT USE SCFG32.EXE - This file is the old (v2.30) Win32 SCFG version.
  Use the new SCFG.EXE (also Win32, but much improved and updated). You can
  and should delete SCFG32.EXE.
For a detailed list of all the changes made since v3.00c (the last official
Synchronet release), see the included file: v310_new.txt
Please report any bugs to rob@synchro.net, please include detailed
instructions on how to reproduce the bug and exactly what the error messages
or other symptoms are.
Thanks for the bug reports, keep 'em coming!
-Rob
P.S. Please do not redistribute alpha or beta versions of Synchronet as they
are very short-term releases and I don't want them to remain "in the wild" for
extended periods of time. - Thanks.
