This program is still in an early stage of development. The intent of this program is provide WildCat! server administrators with an intuitive GUI for editing user accounts. I wrote this because I do not like having to log in to the server to edit user accounts and it is tedious if you have to edit only one or two records. This program is designed to work directly on the computer running your WildCat! Interactive Net Server although it should work on a computer with your system password.

There is a lot I need to do before this is ever released such as creating a help-file, adding a few more features, fixing my errors, or even redesigning this program.

Simply run the installation program included with the WcUsers distribution and if you do not have AutoUpdate 4.47 or are not running the server on WindowsNT, you need your WildCat server directory (usually C:\WC5\) to your path in AUTOEXEC.BAT.

The line to do this is

PATH=%PATH%;C:\WC5

If you have AUP 4.47, please disregard this information.

To remove this program, Run the Uninstallation utility which is in the WcUsers menu under Start|Programs

Please feel free to report bugs in this program and make any suggestions. If you report any bugs, please include the information from the "Help|System Information..." function.

WHO THIS PROGRAM IS NOT FOR

This program is good for small and possibly medium sized Wildcat 5.0 systems. On larger systems, this program may not work as well as it would on a smaller system. On a system with 10,000 users, it would take around 4 seconds to sort user accounts in memory and half a minute to load the complete user database. Even with any optimization, the amount of work and loading could easily multiply into inefficiency.

The reason I had opted for this design is that it would permit a more flexible sorting then would be possible using simple WildCat interface function calls.

I may consider making an alternative design for large systems, but I would loose the flexible sorting permitted with the current WcUsers builds.

RELEASE NOTES:

Now located in release.htm which is included with this distribution.

REQUIREMENTS:

This does require an updated of the Windows Common Control Library (COMCTL32.DLL) which is freely available at Microsoft (without having to install the latest version of Internet Explorer), and included with WindowsNT 4.0 Service Pack 4, Internet Explorer 4.0, Windows98, and with other programs, . You can download it at http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ieplatform/ie/comctrlx86.asp (about .4 MB). You have to reboot your system after installation. I will also note that I specifically retrieve the version of COMCTL32.DLL on your computer in the Help|System Information function of WcUsers.

WildCat 5 - I am not sure if it would work with older versions, but please advise me if it does.

Windows95, Windows98, or Windows NT 4.0 - Goes without saying.
