GetNav -- sounds simple, is simple.

Are you tired of dealing with the wcNav download programs that require tons of configuration, proprietary logon.wcx files, and eat up disk space keeping track of which users are sick of being nagged? Are you tired of programs that require you to put the Navigator program in your WC5 directory, and then don't bother to update the file database to show how often it has been downloaded? Do you want to make it easy for your users to download wcNav, even "nag" them a little to do it, but without being so obtrusive that they get sick of you??

This was my answer. Perhaps it will be yours, too.

I wrote this simple .wcx because I was tired of programs that required too much configuration. I was tired of putting the latest wcNav versions in our file areas, only to have to put them in the wc5 directory as well, so the autodownload program would work. And I was tired of having to choose between a logon.wcx that would run as many .wcx files as I wanted, one that was sensitive to fast logon characters, or one that would prompt callers to download wcNav.

Now, you can run your favorite logon.wcx (I prefer a freeware one from Jagger, that allows you to automatically run as many .wcx files as you like -- I have it run GetNav, and Jagger's user statistics program) without being locked into THIS one for all eternity (or until MSI releases something like this that's "official").

GetNav will run as a menu choice as well, making it even easier for your users to grab wcNav at THEIR convenience. And the any-button-to-continue option makes it easy for them to fly right past it during their login sequence.

Anyway...enough talk. Here's how to install it.

INSTALLATION

1. Unzip the file.

2. Place the following files in the appropriate directories:

	FILE DIRECTORY DESCRIPTION DIRECTORY
	---- --------------------- ---------
	GetNav.wcx -	WIN Server Root Directory	-	\wc5
	GetNav.bbs -	WIN Server Display Directory	-	\wc5\disp
	GetNavHelp.bbs -	WIN Server Display Directory	-	\wc5\disp

3. If you wish to add it as a menu choice, run wcMenu and add it to a menu. Don't forget to allow access to the appropriate user profiles.

4. If you wish to run it at logon, modify the configuration for your logon.wcx as appropriate. If your logon.wcx doesn't allow you to launch other .wcx files, then you can find one that does on MSI's BBS.

5. Can we be done already??? Almost...but a few things to note.

NOTES

1. The .wcx is hard-coded to find all the wcNav files in file area #1. If you prefer to use a different directory, just ask and I can send you an updated GetNav.wcx. Source code is included if you wish to modify it yourself. The good news: updating the wcNav files in the file area automatically update them here, and users who download from here will have the statistics added to the file database.

2. The .wcx is hard-coded to use the number 1 through 4 to select the appropriate files. If you prefer a different method, just ask and I can send you an updated GetNav.wcx. Source code is included if you wish to modify it yourself.

3. Modify the GetNav.bbs and GetNavHelp.bbs to your heart's content. I never said I was an artist. I recommend you try to make sure the GetNav.bbs file can fit on a single screen, if you wish to add GetNav to the logon sequence. Let me know if you come up with any attractive .bbs files you'd be willing to let me use.

4. Users can press any key (other than 1, 2, 3, 4, H, or h) to quit GetNav. This makes it easier to use as part of the logon process, but may confuse users who are Enter-happy if they call it from a menu.

5. Money. You knew this one was coming. Well, get ready to smile. GetNav is freeware. I ask only that you let me know if you're happy with the program.

WHAT'S NEW

Version 1.0 had an old GetNav.bbs file...version 1.01 includes the new, updated version. Oops!

That's it! Enjoy!!!
