What is RAutil?

RAutil is a small utility that will sort or move message or file areas for
Remote Access 2.x. RAutil will also create a text file containing a list of
either message or file areas.

Message areas:

 1 Boating         --->     1 Adlib
 2 BRE Users                2 alt.tv.simpsons
 3 BRE Sysops      --->     3 Astronomy
 4 CD-ROM                   4 Bad Echo
 5 Adlib           --->     5 Bluewave
 6 Astronomy                6 Boating
 7 Bad Echo        --->     7 BRE Sysops
 8 CD-ROM for sale          8 BRE Users
 9 alt.tv.simpsons --->     9 C programming
10 C programming           10 CD-ROM
11 Bluewave        --->    11 CD-ROM for sale

How do I use RAutil?

Simple.

If you want to sort message area 1 to 50 you would simple type 'RAUTIL MESSAGES
SORT 1 50' on the command line.

If you want to sort all messages areas you would type 'RAUTIL MESSAGES SORT
ALL' on the command line.

If you want to move messages areas from 1 to 50 to 501 you would type 'RAUTIL
MESSAGES MOVE 1 50 501' on the command line.

If you want to move message areas from 501 to 550 to 101 you would type 'RAUTIL
MOVE 501 550 101' on the command line.

If you want to create a text file listing all messages areas you would type
'RAUTIL MESSAGES AREAS' on the command line. This will create a file called
MAREAS.RA.

You can do the same functions on file areas. Just change the RAutil command
'MESSAGES' to 'FILES'.

*******

Be Warned: RAutil can overwrite message (or file) areas if you are moving a
group of areas to a destination that is already in use. To be safe, make a
backup of your messages.ra and files.ra

Also note: RAutil only sorts message area names. It does not know about various
echomail processors. If you are using HMB areas which are dependent on the
areas' location (ie. record number) then you will have to tell your echomail
processesor where the new area is. This not true for JAM areas, as JAM is
dependent on a file name rather than a position in MESSAGES.RA.

RAutil also does not know about offline readers such as JC-QWK, Blue Wave,
Silver Express, etc. Offline readers also point to the position number in
MESSAGES.RA, even JAM areas. For this reason you will have to have your users
redefine thier areas to be read offline.

The above also concerns Combined message areas in RA.

Disclaimer: RAutil works for me. It should work for you too. Please back up
your MESSAGES.RA and FILES.RA files before you use it. Also please consider the
previous warnings. You have been warned.

RAutil was a fun utility to work on. I don't require a registration to use it,
but feel free to send a small donation (How about a membership on my BBS)
:). That will encourage me to write more utilities. Also, send a netmail
telling me what you think about it, bugs (bugs? :) ), etc.
