ͻ
  Preface
ͼ

There's only one reason why I started putting this manual together. After
a while, I got tired of seeing 9 kazillion messages in the ProBoard echo on the
Fidonet backbone about the same thing: Protocols.

This manual will generally cover how to install protocols into your
ProBoard BBS package. It is only intended as a reference text. If it don't work
for you, then there ain't a thing in the world I can do for ya. I guarantee
nothing. Most of these setups work on my BBS, and on the folk's BBS's that
contributed their PROTOCOL.PRO's to me.

This is the second update of this manual, probably with many more to come
in the future. I imagine by now, you are asking yourself, "How much is he gonna
charge for this crap?" Well, I can honestly tell you: NOT A DAMN THING!

BUT, if you find it in your heart to send a meager contribution, $2.00
U.S. dollars (or the equivalent in foreign cash, so I can start a collection of
foreign monies) will be greatly accepted. Reason I ask for $2.00, is that I
have went through a many a pack of cigarettes writing this thing.

Also, I ask one more favor. Can anyone recommend a good ASCII text editor
with line drawing capabilities, and it will automatically insert the form feed
character at the end of every page? I write this in WordPerfect 5.1, and it's a
whole lot of trouble to do it all manually.

Credit where credit is due: I stole most of these protocols from a info file
written for RemoteAccess by Bob R. Thanks Bob!

  CE-XYZ Protocols
ͼ

This is the set of Protocol drivers written by George Hatchew. Yep, he's
the same guy that did the Blue Wave Mail System.

Most folks say that they have trouble with the CE-XYZ protocols under a
multitasker (like Windows, DesQview, etc). I have recently started having
problems with them, and switched to the GSZ protocols.

  HS/Link
ͼ

HS/Link is another one of those Bi-Directional protocols. From what I am
able to understand, you can upload and download at the same time. Some people
have told me that you can also chat while this is going on with a user. I've
never tried it, so I really don't know.

Ŀ
 HS/Link

With HS-Link, you need a configuration file. Here's what I
have in my HSLINK.CFG:

-!
-B19200
-HS
-HX
-NM
-R
-S4096
-W20

That's all there is to it! For those of you who like to tinker with
things, HS-Link puts all uploads transferred in a bi-directional file transfer
in the main ProBoard directory (C:\PB). See if you can make HS-Link put uploads
in the Uploads directory, so you're upload scanner will get them.

ͻ
  Omen Tech. GSZ Protocols
ͼ

The GSZ protocols work the same way the CEXYZ Protocol drivers work. I've
heard that these do better under multitasking environments like OS/2, and
Windows. I can't confirm this, but if you get slow CPS rates and a lot of
errors with CEXYZ, use GSZ.

The GSZ protocol setup are compliments of Timothy Bryant, SysOp, The EIC
Board.

Even though the configurations call for DSZ, Tim simply renamed GSZ.EXE to
DSZ.EXE. Some doors want DSZ specifically, and you can use the better protocols
that GSZ has to offer if you rename it to DSZ.EXE.

  In Closing This Puppy Up
ͼ

Most of these protocols have been tested extensively, and do work. I can't
guarantee that they will work for you on your BBS, but they work fine on mine,
and the folks who were kind enough to send me their PROTOCOL.PRO's.

I'd like to thank:

Timothy Bryant, SysOp, The EIC Board, Oxford, MS
601-236-2505, Fido: 1:3672/593.0

Bob R. The Anonymous BBS

If you have any protocols that I didn't cover in here, send me your
PROTOCOL.PRO, and whatever config files are needed for the protocols. Crash
them to: 1:3672/10.0. BE SURE to send me netmail so I will know just who they
are from. If you would, rename your PROTOCOL.PRO to your node number, so anyone
else who sent their protocol configurations in won't get overwritten.

If I was gonna send mine out to someone, I would name it 1367210.PRO.
Since my node number is 1:3672/10. See how that works??
