                             *** DPLINK 1.7 ***

Upgrading from earlier Versions
===============================

If you run DPPP, you must use DPLINK and DPIDENT from this package, not
earlier versions. If you use DPIRC, you must also use its latest version. In
general latest versions of DPPP, DPIRC, DPLINK and DPIDENT must be used
together, earlier versions are not compatible.

1. Shut down all PBBS nodes, DPLINK and DPIDENT.

2.  Replace DPIDENT.EXE / DPID32.EXE and DPLINK.EXE / DPLINK32.EXE with the
    new versions.

3. Move your DPLINK.INI from the \powrbbs directory to the \windows
    directory. On networked BBS systems have a copy of \windows\dplink.ini on
    each machine!

4. Make a backup copy of your \powrbbs\CHAT.DAT and copy CHAT.DAT from the
    distribution file to your \powrbbs directory.

5. Restart your PBBS nodes, DPIDENT and DPLINK.

New with V 1.7
==============

The new default installation of DPLINK automatically connects you to the
Global PowrCHAT network, where you can meet callers from other PowerBBS
systems. Read the enclosed PowrCHAT.RTF to learn all about it. If you are a
registered user of DPLINK and connect to the Global PowrCHAT Network, please
configure it to run in "Background Mode" (see DPLINK.TXT, chapter "Operation
Modes") in order to keep network traffic to a minimum!

Fixed DPLINK not re-connecting after a failed (auto-)connect.

Fixed trailing spaces in outgoing messages.

You can now use a nickname you registered with NickServ. Add the line
NickServ=   your password
if registered with NICKSERV to DPLINK.INI.

You can now set a topic for your IRC channels by having a line like
T;[Existing Title of Room];[Topic]
in your CHAT.DAT.

You can now have DPLINK connect to multiple servers concurrently. You can
define a server other than the "Default Server" per chat room, by adding a
line like
S;[Existing Title of Room];[Server Address];[Nickname];[NickServ Password]
to CHAT.DAT. The "Nickname" and "NickServ Password" entries are optional.

Read DPLINK.TXT, chapter "Configuring CHAT.DAT", for details.

You can now disable the "Joined", "Parted", "LeftIRC" and "Kicked" messages
entirely by setting the entries in DPLINK.INI to "none".

You can now configure DPLink to automatically receive DCC file sends to a file
area of your BBS. See DPLINK.TXT, chapter "The DCC File Receiver" for details.

DPLINK can now run a batch file in order to initiate a dial-up connection to
the Internet. This is configured by adding a line like
DialUp= full path to batch file to initiate dial-up Internet connection
to DPLINK.INI. The PleaseWait= line in DPLINK.INI configures a message to
be displayed during dial-up. See DPLINK.TXT, chapter "Dial-Up Support" for
details.

On networked BBS systems DPLINK can now connect to IRC servers using a Proxy
on your LAN. See DPLINK.TXT, chapter "Proxy Support", for details.

You can now configure a message to be displayed to the caller during dial-up
with the PleaseWait= parameter in DPLINK.INI.

A new "fixedid=" parameter can be configured in DPIDENT.INI for LAN
configurations with Internet connection going through a Proxy server. See
DPLINK.TXT, chapter "DPIDENT.EXE / DPID32.EXE", for details.

This version introduces a new feature called AutoConnect. It is switched on by
having the line

in your DPLINK.INI file. Please read the chapter on AutoConnect in the manual. "AutoConnect" is available to registered users only.
