  PCE-Magazine is free for everyone and spreading is encouraged. If you
  want to have a printed copy of the current issue (or from prior
  issues), call our BBS and post a message to us so we can work some-
  thing out.

  We will try to make this a very interesting zine with all kinds of in-
  formation that's usefull for almost anyone running PC-Express. Besides
  this textfile we incorporate much more in the archives that we make
  such as a list of all the BBS's in the world that are using PC-Express
  (registered and unregistered), a source file for an utility that some-
  one has coded (and one that works :-)), some ANSI- & ASCII-texts, a
  vote sheet etc.

  In the magazine itself we'll try to hold on to the following contents:

  a) General information,
  b) What's in the archive that you've got (downloaded),
  c) News from the author of PC-Express (Michael Feilen),
  d) Editorial section,
  e) Offered information,
  f) New things, bugs and idea's,
  g) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's),
  h) Short story (optional),
  i) PC-ExpressNet(c),
  j) Source section (MugSHot),
  k) Tool report II,
  l) List with released utilities and idea's for utilities that need
     to be coded,
  m) How to register your copy of PC-Express,
  n) List of people that have registered themselves this month,
  o) All the PC-Express HQ's,
  p) Distributors of this zine,
  q) End notes.

  We'll do much be we can't do it alone; if you have a source-file that
  you want to share with others so that they too can learn to code, if
  you have a textfile with important information, if you have an addi-
  tion to the list with (un-)registered BBS's in your country etc.
  please give it to one the people that is able to incorporate it in the
  next issue of the magazine. We all must try to make this zine interes-
  ting for us all.

  When you want to contact the author with submissions, your vote, com-
  plaints, idea's etc. write a message to one of the above mentioned In-
  ternet addresses, call our BBS or mail us at the following address:

  News from the Author (Michael Feilen)

  Hi there,

  I hope that you will profit from the features newly incorporated into
  PC-Express v1.2, which should have reached all the registered users by
  now. Upon it's release, I immediately started working on the next ver-
  sion. As described earlier, I'm going to re-write the entire message
  base so that any mail can be saved in JAM-format.

  This adjustment is essential for several reasons:
  - The message base seems to be rather problematic in terms of creating
    multi-node reports;
  - We repeatedly experienced runtime errors when two or more users
    tried to access the message base (these runtime errors may not occur
    when using a Novell network since Novell will handle various sharing
    problems by itself.);
  - It is impossible to access any netmail (like Fidonet) when using PC-
    Express as no mailer currently supports it's format.
    However, JAM is one of the most commonly used formats as well as one
    of the most progressive ones.

  Nevertheless, there's no need to worry about the message base being
  replaced in the forthcoming version V1.3: The new version will include
  a converting tool to convert former PC-Express formats into JAM! There
  won't hardly be any differences in the message base's layout or opera-
  tion: I will try to keep the new message base as similar to the old
  one as possible. Nevertheless I already changed one thing: In previous
  versions, PC-Express used to save the entire filename, meaning inclu-
  ding it's PATH, within the message base when attaching a file to a
  message. This way, hackers were able to crack PCE in the past. In fu-
  ture versions, PC-Express will save the filename only, in order to
  avoid improper access to critical files like USERS.DAT or Express.cf0.

  I will keep you posted...

  Regards,
  .\\ichael

Yep, another issue! It's been hot these days but I managed to spend the
necessary hours with my second girlfriend to maintain the BBS and write
the zines. I had some trouble because my monitor went down (so that's
why I didn't answer your questions quickly) but nevertheless I managed
to make up for this loss of time.

   ..... *snif* *snif* the new monitor costs me 375 guilders......

The scene itself is very quiet this month, almost no tools were released
besides the tools from us. Maybe a little bit more activity could be
nice, but you probably lay at the beach with your girlfriend and a com-
puter just can't match that :-)

I decided to write an article on my Amiga about ourselves. I am doing
this because a reader of this magazine suggested that we should give a
bit more information about the writers of this zine. I hope that you
like it as much as he does...

The PCE DHQ (X-TReMe BBS) consists out of three people who maintain it
and program tools: Pygor, MugSHot and myself. X-TReMe BBS is not a "nor-
mal" BBS but specializes in many aspects. We support many BBS-systems
like PC-Express, /X, PC-Board, System/X, Remote Access (and ofcourse we
run with PC-Express!), specialize in H/P/A, virii, documentation, maga-
zines, art etc. We try to be the BBS behind the BBS's if you know what I
mean. If someone has a problem or wants to have a tool, he/she can call
us to get the solution (we also code tools that are not present but only
for PC-Express).

Next a little bit info about the writers themselves. First is Pygor, 24
years young and currently doing the last months of his army service. He
codes tools for PC-Express, maintains the BBS and is interested in HPA
and virii. Second is MugSHot, 19 years young and our foremost coder. He
is mostly busy coding tools for PC-Express :-). Third is The Doctor, 24
years young and maintainer of the BBS, writer of certain magazines and
everything that needs accompanied documentation. Maybe you want to know
that I'm studying medical sience at the University of Antwerp and I suc-
cesfully finished my third year (still four to go!).

         ..............icecream......who wants to have an icecream...

Finally I want to give you some information about the latest work that
we did on coding tools for PC-Express and other stuff. PCEKiT did NOT
work with UART, so we decided to start coding the kit again and make
one that has no problems with UART, FOSSIL, etc. (PCEKiT was first co-
ded by Spider). MugSHot has done this so PCEKiT will be released as a
better working kit for all you guys that want to code tools. Together
with this kit we'll release a stand alone unit that you can use in your
programs to control the whole modem, i.e. to initialize, hang up, dial,
answer, autoanswer, control of the speaker-loudness etc.

The Doctor.

  I have received a vote sheet from the following people:

  - MugSHot (PCE DHQ),
  - DOC HOLiDAY (iNFLUENCE).

  Thankyou very much! PCE-Magazine is constantly changing and you all
  have a big part in this!

  .----------.
  : Part -3- :
  :.---------:---------------------------------------------------------.

  I have received a message from Papa Driel! because of the external z-
  modem batchfile stated in issue four:

  TD: DOC HOLiDAY has posted a message at the PCE WHQ in which he stated
      that the batchfile for the external z-modem did NOT work. Would
      you please look at this and react on it?

  PD: There indeed was a mistake made in this batchfile. The %dszlog%
      was (if it existed) NOT removed and because of that strange things
      could happen. At Caligula's place a user crashed during a zyrion-
      transfer. The %dszlog% stated a file without a name that was 0 by-
      tes big, 0 cps etc. The next user tried to execute GSZ.exe but af-
      ter the transfer DSZ-TOLK went crazy. This all has been adjusted
      now. These are my batchfiles at the moment:

      Batchfile for the upload protocol of GSZ.exe:
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      @Echo off
      C:
      Set dszlog=c:\bbs\dsz0.log
      If exist %dszlog% erase %dszlog% > nul
      Acd %3.
      C:\bbs\gsz.exe port 2 speed 38400 pP2 rz -mrr
      C:
      CD\bbs
      DSZ-TOLK 0 z Z 6000 3000
      Batchfile for the download protocol of GSZ.exe:
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

      @Echo off
      C:
      CD\bbs
      Set dszlog=c:\bbs\dsz0.log
      If exist %dszlog% erase %dszlog% > nul
      C:\bbs\gsz.exe port 2 speed 38400 pP2 sz -mrr @c:\bbs\pcesend.%1
      C:
      CD\bbs
      DSZ-TOLK 0 z Z 6000 3000

      Finally a word about ACD.exe. The necessarry files can be found in
      TDR-GSZ3.ZIP. The tool ACD.exe needs to have an index file which
      can be created executing ACD/create. ACD.exe then scans all active
      disks and places the names of the subdirectories in a file. With
      ACD %3. (the point is necessary) ACD jumps to the directory where
      the uploads should arrive.

                                     ---

  Then I received a letter from =zEn=:

  Open letter

  I've been using PCE for a while now and I must say that it's a pretty
  solid program but there are some things I want to get rid of my chest.

  It strikes me that the PCE team is not at all concerned about the fact
  that more and more sysops are switching to the other 'Ami/X clone'
  System Express a.k.a. s/X.

  As I have been using PCE from the beginning, I know that the intention
  of the program was to have an Amiga Express clone, with more or less
  the same functions/lay-out as Ami/X. About a year ago almost all
  boards were running single node, which was not a problem, because PCE
  met the demands perfectly.

  Nowadays, single node boards are more or less out of order. If a sysop
  wants to belong to the scene he needs to have a 2 node board minimum.
  Now this is where the problems for PCE starts. I have tried to run 2
  nodes for 2 days, but my users started asking me if I had switched to
  a 80286 computer because it was slow, and I mean real slooooow. Even
  when accessing the system locally, it seemed if nothing happened.

  Also, PCE is looking more and more like a true PC BBS program like PC-
  BOARD. Well I can't imagine that that is intention for the future, be-
  cause I don't think that PCE can compete with a Prof. Prg like PCBOARD
  (with prof. I do not mean that PCE is not a prof looking prg, but ...
  ah you know what I mean ;)

  The strength of PCE was that it was a good looking /X clone, which did
  the job right. Quite a lot of elite boards in Europe USED PCE. Nowa-
  days it is a different story. The elite boards I rephrased earlier on
  have turned into multi node boards (well quite a lot of them), and
  found out that PCE could not handle the multi-node aspect properly,
  -so- most of them switched over to System/X, which is FREE, easy to
  configure 100% /X STYLED (almost all doors/prgs that have been relea-
  sed for s/X are /X style, sometimes you can't even tell the difference
  from the real (read amiga) version of the door/tool.) and most impor-
  tant, you are able to run a -3- node board on 1 PC easily!. Some sys-
  ops may think that /X styled boards look horrible, but it is they only
  way to run a board which is able to provide services to PC- as well as
  Amiga- (and Console / Mac) users.

  I am not saying that s/X is a prefect prg, because most of you are
  aware that it is pretty buggy, but still ... it is much faster then
  PCE, need less memory and looks more like the original (Ami/X). For a
  lot of sysops reasons enough to make the switch.

  Why didn't I? Well I kinda hoped that M.F. would improve the multi-
  node capacity for the 1.20 version, but he didn't. Instead he added a
  multi language function (besides bug fixes, some other options).
  I truly hope that he realises that, if he will not improve the multi-
  node abilities of PCE dramaticly, PCE will loose more users (sysops).

  =zEn= /rOadhOgz/KiLLERS!

  ----------------
  =zEn=, you're right. I personally think that if we do what you state
  AND add extra options maybe in the future /X users switch to PC/X :-).

The Doctor,

	Hello.. this is The Hoodlum of Crazy PcExpress coding team... I
got the PceMag4 today, and saw that my operator pager was reviewed.. I
had to laugh when I saw that... that door was made for me to show CRAZY
that I can code pce.. I did that in about 30 minutes.. and really wasn't
planing on having it released to the public.. I am running many new
PCEXPRESS doors now that I have coded on my bbs and will be releasing
them in the near future.. hehe.. I am going to yell at Evilive for
releasing that to the public! Anyways, I try to give the PcExpress an
ami/x look when I code.. so everything you see from me in the future will
be in the ami/x style.. If I have time I'll work on that operator page
door as well.. I'm about to do a SENT door in which a user can change his
sent by description without going through the w command... because about
90% of users on my bbs try SENT before they look for it at 'w' then
'10'.. I hope you are following what I am saying.. well.. I will go.. but
I look forward to hearing from someone over there soon! I wish your bbs
software was telnetable like ami/x software.. then maybe I'd pay the 100$
to register (Which I think is WAY too much money, but that's just my
opinion..)  Talk to you later..

						Mark / The Hoodlum
  ----------------
  Hello Mark, nice to see that you're coding /X-like tools for PC/X.
  Maybe we can exchange some ideas although I see that you have many
  great ideas yourself. Let's hope that you can work out these ideas so
  that the PC/X-scene can work with stable, good looking tools!

                                     ---

ABUSE OF REGISTRATION = THROW AWAY YOUR PCE-LICENCE!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I was shocked. A registered user in The Netherlands had the regis-
tered version of PCE (v1.20r)  in a file-area where all users had access
to. I just couldn't  believe it, he payed and now he just gives away the
registered version. Okay, the people that downloaded that  archive don't
have a key and maybe things don't work 100% but things like a maximum of
two doors don't count anymore; it's NOT the demo-version.
In my opinion, when someone gives a registered version or a key to some-
one else, he/she should loose  his/her registration licence. Let me here
what you think  about that. Everyone may reply  to this message.  If you
think  the same way  as I do, we could  make a rule of  this as from the
next update of PC-Express  because for now no  obvious rules are stated!
The Doctor.
   CODEX and DOC HOLiDAY
  INFORMATION
  ~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh no, what a stupid day. First my car didn't start and then I received
a message from 'The Doctor' who asked me if I could give him some infos
about TOXIC for the next pce-magazine. Well, I will give you some infor-
mation but don't lough after reading.....

TOXIC is not a real group. It is a team of two members called CODEX and
DOC HOLiDAY (that's me). TOXIC is the abbreviation of 'TOp eXperts In
Coding', the group was founded in '93 and has released more than 20 dif-
ferent files. CODEX, who is a real good coder in ASM and TP was respons-
ible for some cracks, patches, intros and trainers, I released some
doors for PCE in the last weeks.
We both finished school this year and we are going to pass our community
service next month. After this time we will both study on an university.

Actually I'm joining 'iNFLUENCE' and CODEX is on the way to join 'TUR!',
a german label.

If I can persude CODEX to code tools for pce, he would do the same job
like the dutch pce team did in the past (I think). If you require a
really good coder, call my board (FATAL iLLUSiON BBS) and write him a
message.

Sorry, but there is nothing more to say about TOXIC.

    iNFLUENCE is a new utility-group which we are constructing. It will be
         world-wide and we will first of all create QUALITY PCExpress
         utilites and maybe PCBoard, System/X and iNSTiNCT utilites too.
         The name iNFLUENCE will be standing for quality, trust and
         possibilites. All doors we create will of course be spread
         world-wide. Our utilites will be fully configurable after
         each and every BBS system, out there so it will follow there
         style.

    iNFLUENCE will be founded in sweden, but we will have continous
         contact with Michael Feilen, PCExpress developer and
         PCE-Support WHQ SysOp, in germany which also will be our
         Communications headquarter(CHQ). We will also have one
         headquarter in every country which is the main distribution
         center of that country and it will be responsible for the
         distribution of the iNFLUENCE utils fast and wide in that
         country.

    iNFLUENCE is looking for utilitie coders of all kinds which
         create QUALITY utilites and see too that the utilites which
         he produces are spread to our CHQ. iNFLUENCE is also looking
         for boards intrested in beeing the headquarter of their
         country. Also we would like to have a few but good inter-
         national couriers to spread the products, and some ansi/ascii
         artists for the design.

  New things / Bugs / Idea's

  // Short explanation:  New things, bugs and idea's are written random;
  the name of the person discovered it out is written between hooks //

  .--------------------------------------------------------------------.
  : When you upload more the fifty (50) files local (i.e. 56), you :
  : only upload the last six (6). :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                       (Black Hell) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : "TRSI" at the BBS-prompt STILL works. :
  :                                                       (Black Hell) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : When your system is crashed, you first have to delete the Node.? :
  : file, that's difficult. Normally you could phone home and let :
  : somebody press the reset-button, but now first the above mentioned :
  : file should be deleted. :
  :                                                       (Black Hell) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : When you normally press "J x" (x=conference-number), you'll get to :
  : see the following: Highest msg 45 :
  :                    Highest read 21                                 :
  :                    etc.                                            :
  : Now the highest message is i.e. 20865 or i.e. negative numbers :
  : appear.                                                            :
  :                                                       (Black Hell) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : When the date in the DirX.txt (or DirXY.txt) is NOT mentioned, get :
  : the date somewhere else (like in early versions of PC-Express) be- :
  : cause people can have listings that are more then 1 years old and :
  : the date is NOT always mentioned. Now, in the new version of PC- :
  : Express, when a users scans for new files, MUCH goes wrong. :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                       (The Doctor) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : When I type a message (as a SysOp), shell to DOS to i.e. look for :
  : an answers and come back to type further, PC-Express gives a run- :
  : time error 100 at 2259:353F. I have had this problem 4 times now. :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                       (Black Hell) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : Please code a msgbase cruncher WITHIN PC-Express. PC-Express it-   :
  : self should take care of the message-base, not an external tool. :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                          (MugSHot) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : When I press "SHIFT+F1" and fillin anything (because maybe for :
  : some reason I don't want to sent it afterall) my typings sometimes :
  : are only visible on MY screen and the user (and I) can't do any- :
  : thing!                                                             :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                       (The Doctor) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : Try typing "bye" at the menu-prompt for immediat LogOff. :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                       (The Doctor) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : When someone has a security-level 100, see what happens when you :
  : press <cursor_to_left>; the security-level changes to 900, 800     :
  : etc. Please fix this little mistake a.s.a.p. :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                       (The Doctor) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : When a user uses the RL-option, the statusline changes incorrect- :
  : ly; behind the securitylevel a "s" appears and you'll get to see :
  : "eUL" instead of "UL". Besides that when a users logs on the first :
  : time and is considered to be a VIP-user, the second time (when re- :
  : logging) before he/she types his/her name, he/she automaticcaly is :
  : a VIP-user.                                                        :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                       (The Doctor) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : PC-Express does NOT take the baudrate out of the dropfile! When we :
  : change it will being online, the new baudrate is NOT taken when we :
  : return from the door. :
  :                                                                    :

  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : When a user enters a wrong password two times and then enters the :
  : correct one, PC-Express throws away the user! PC-Express then does :
  : NOT show the Access denied from the Express.txt. :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                         (Caligula) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : The Sent-By string is still one (1) position too long. :

  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : I witnessed the fact that when a user connects at 24000 bps, pce :
  : says that he/she logged on at 22400 bps. :
  :                                                                    :
  :                                                         (Caligula) :
  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : If "Subscription" is on and the date is reached, the security- :
  : level of the user is "0" and all the access to other conferences :
  : is gone! That is a mistake too; PC-Express should use the pre- :
  : settings which are selected by the SysOp and NOT throw away the :
  : user when he/she calls again!                                      :

  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : Please change the (C)hange protocol into (P)rotocol change; this :
  : is used everywhere. When a user sees "P)rotocol", he/she automa-   :
  : cally that you can change your protocol. :

  )--------------------------------------------------------------------(
  : Take "Y" as a standard for: Quote in message, that also goes for :
  : "Delete original message". Many users don't delete their messages :
  : after reading them.                                                :

  :                                                         (Caligula) :
  `--------------------------------------------------------------------'

  DON'T FORGET to have a serious look  at the reports from prior issues;
  there are a lot of good idea's but also bugs that are NOT in the cur-
  rent version of PC-Express. If necessary, we'll make a compilation in
  the next issue.

WANT TO HAVE A FILE-TAGGER THAT REPLACES A,F,N and Z ?
------------------------------------------------------
X-TReMe BBS. We at the Dutch HQ coded TheTag, a tool that succesfully
replaces the A, F, N and Z commands and all the parameters that go with
these four options like "f u", "f r 4", "n s u g" etc. We hope that this
tool will greatly enhance your BBS when the user uses these options, but
I think that a judgement of this tool is up to you, so TRY IT soon!

  Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

  Q: Will PC-Express be going to support networks like Fidonet in the
     future?

  A: Yes. In PC-Express v1.3 we hope that we have replaced the current
     message-base with JAM-base so that besides our own network other
     mail/file networks like Fidonet can be incorporated too.

  Short Story

PCE - One big happy family?
---------------------------
Let me entertain you with a story about the PCE scene. When I started I
used two BBS-systems: Ami-Express on my Amiga and, somewhat later, PC-
Express on my MS-DOS computer. Because I wanted to use my Amiga for a
lot of other activities then for maintaining a BBS I decided to go for
PC-Express only. I also installed FrontDoor and Remote Access for taking
care of the mail-part and edited my system so that the user could move
from one system to another.

I logged in at quite a few boards down here in Holland and saw that
there were a few groups that controlled the pce-scene (groups like i.e.
UZI and EXCIDE) as well as a few BBS's that supported this BBS-system
enormously, but as it allways goes groups that ones were big and famous
disappeared and make room for new ones.

Nowadays we have some groups that are lasting for quite some time and
also groups who's members switch from one group to another. I allways
thought that people should be nice to each other and tell each other
about idea's, problems etc. In that way the best tools can be coded and,
maybe even more important, people could get along fine. However, some
people just don't like that and when they can "fuck" someone they WILL
do it! well, FUCK THEM! (I immediatly appologize for this sort of lang-
uage).

The PCE-scene grows and the BBS itself too. Look i.e. at v1.17 and what
we have now, many things are improved and added! That also means that
the tools that are coded must be relatively better then the tools from
2 or 3 years ago. That only can be done when we exchange information
with each other so please do your best to build up a great scene!

 Here is more information about our new network! We had to change the

PC-ExpressNet(c) has the Zone-number "167". The other numbers also have
changed, so I think that I best can give you an overview of the current

  Software
  ~~~~~~~~
  What do you need to run with PC-ExpressNet(c)? The same as for running
  with other networks:  A frontend program like  FrontDoor or DBridge, a
  mailer/tosser like FMail (FMail v0.98 supports JAM-base) and a offline
  mail reader  like BlueWave  (as well as for the BBS  as for the user).
  Most programs require that you run with Fossil instead of UART so take
  the trouble and install i.e. X00.  FrontDoor doesn't support JAM-base.
  For a good maintainance a program like Allfix can be use too.
    A small explanation:
    It is always possible that you have a string that can't be
    wrapped, simply because the string doesn't contain 2 or more
    spaces. In that case the variable cutoffhere will be used to
    blindly cutoff the string at the value of cutoffhere.        *}
  Finally, besides our own tools  another tool is released in august; it
  looks like the scene in resting this month.
  - Mistake made  in the last line of  the batchfile; remember  to write
    dsz%1.log instead of dsz%1og,
  - Good documentation (as always :-),
  - In the batchfile is stated: port %5, but  when I start "us", gsz.exe
    says: Bad port. When I change "%5" into "2", gdz.exe works fine!,
  - Change the date-format into MM-DD-YY instead of DD-MM-YY if you want
    to spread it over the world.
   Conclusion:
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Small, handy tool that creates a seperate logfile with additional
    data (i.e. name) when using "us".

  `--------------------------------------------------------------------'

  Today it looks like everyone has to make a lastcallers tool, that also
  goes for COWS. tHE WHiTE KNiGHT said that in the prior tool there was
  a range check error, so that's why this update appeared in the scene,

  When executing xdt_last.exe it creates two files: xdt_last.ans and
  xdt_last.asc. In these files the last 8 callers are stated, together
  with some BBS-statistics from today and yesterday like calls, uploads
  and downloads. Besides that, you'll get to see the node, handle, loca-
  tion, baudrate, flags, uploaded kb (mb) and downloaded kb (mb),

  There is no accompanied documentation accept for a general .nfo file,
  but what can you say about a lastcallers tool that handles everything
  automatically?,

  Maybe the coder could leave the SysOp a choise whether or not he/she
  wants to add a CTRL-A sign at the end of xdt_last.a*,

  The tool does NOT take care with the colour that the SysOp installed
  on his computer (normal colour: Gray, colour after xdt_last.exe: Dark
  cyan),

  Finally I want to say that the output files are nice.

   Conclusion:
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Well working lastcallers lister in /X-style.
  Yep, the 2nd tool from GOD HiMSELF this month.  He's moving fast! This
  time  it's a last callers  tool which  makes an ANSI  with the last 10
  people that logged  on to your system. Let's see what we can say about
  it:
  - Nice ANSI-output screen! Next time, also automatically let the pro-
    gram create an  ASCII-output screen because "strip.exe" doesn't al-
    ways work 100%,
  - Documentation is sufficient and written inside the .exe itself; you
    can execute the .exe without parameters to view it,
  - Can you also add the "calls to the system" in the output files?
  - Let the SysOp decide if a pauze-character should be added at the
    bottom of the output-files,
  - The program makes allowance for hidden users,
  - The program has a random  choosen proverb or saying  centered at the
    bottom of the output-files.
   Conclusion:
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Well working (10) last callers lister.

  |  Short Desc.: Last Callers (10) / Last Uploads (10) v1.0         |
  `--------------------------------------------------------------------'

  We will test LU10.exe, the tool that displays the last 10 uploads on
  your BBS. This tool is placed inside the archive that also holds v1.3
  of his last callers tool.

  LU10.exe creates  an ANSI file with  the last 10 uploads  to your BBS;
  the commandline looks like this:
  LU10.exe <node_nr> <ansi_file> <lowest_fake_cps> <highest_fake_cps>
  and -? also works. You can see that it also takes care of the cps when
  performing local uploads (parameters three and four).

  The output ANSI has the following data: - date, - time, - uploader,
  - filename, - conference, - conference number and - cps, all together
  in a surveyable screen.

  Things like defining a selfmade header- and/or footerfile and select-
  ing colours are not yet implemented.

  When someone uploads i.e. "MES" (you see, without any extension), the
  screen isn't correct anymore,

  It is a choise how to output the archive-names, the coder did it like
  this:

  08-19  14:48  Papa Driel!   tdr-lc13.zip  - PC-Express -  [003]  1395
  08-18  17:10  MuHaDiB       P@PAS2  .ZIP  - Sources -     [010]  1083
  08-18  17:10  MuHaDiB       P@PAS1  .ZIP  - Sources -     [010]  1079
                              ^^^^^^^^^^^^
  maybe you can make this also selectable for the SysOp?

  Make a config for the SysOp so that he/she can define members who are
  NOT to be displayed in the output ANSI. At our BBS some guys are doing
  tests and all the things that they upload should (of course) NOT be
  displayed in the output screen.

  And what about hidden conferences? With your tool uploads in hidden
  conferences are visible for anyone!

   Conclusion:
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Nice working last ten uploads displayer.
  `--------------------------------------------------------------------'
  Well well,  GOD is busy  these days!  He has made  many updates of his
  lastcallers tool in order to provide you with the best last 10 callers
  displayer. I have tested the first version that he released and now it
  is time to see what he improved in this version...
  Do you see this; I think that it's not correct; it should be:
     2.4 (or 2k4)
     9.6 (or 9k6)
    14.4
  Other things that are not implemented yet are:
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  - MCI codes support,
  - use of own header and/or footer,
  - calls today, total calls (in one line)
  - ASCII output (the tool still depends on Strip.exe, make it indepen-
    dent!).

  The program now uses a .ini file in which you can define the colours
  for all the elements in the output ANSI, it also has support for hid-
  den users.

  The following things are displayed in the output ANSI:
  - Node-number,
  - connect rate,
  - user handle,
  - location/group,
  - logon time,
  - actions (facts),
  - up bytes,
  - down bytes,
  - cps and
  - times called.

  Change your date a bit, don't place it like fRI 1995.08.25 but more
  like August 25, 1995 (or perhaps: Friday, August 25, 1995)

  A lot of things are fixed so I can surely recommend this tool for your
  BBS!

  has updated his online message - and stats tool for PCE v1.20. I will
  test stats v1.3, I cannot test  OLM because I don't have  a multi-node
  system...

  Good accompanied documentation,

  The tool says (the first time that I executed it) "weektop.dat not
  found, creating new one" but weektop.dat is NOT created at that time,

  You will get to see an ANSI or an ASCII output with the following data
  in it: - calls today,
         - files/bytes uploaded,
         - files/bytes downloaded,
         - messages posted,
         - SysOp pages,

         - private uploads,
         - total messages posted,
         - total files/bytes uploaded,
         - total files/bytes downloaded,
  this is mentioned for the current day as well as for the day before.

  - NO external ANSI- & ASCII-file / NO own header & footer,
  - NOT taking care with the colours that users with an Amiga operating
    system can see, NO self definable colours,
  - NO option for the screen clear,

  `--------------------------------------------------------------------'
  You probably all know that there is a new utility-group in the world
  who code tools for PC-Express. The name of that group is iNFLUENCE. I
  thought that it would be nice if we could review a tool from then in
  this archive since they started to release at the end of this month.

  We present you the review for v1.1 of their statistics displayer:

  - You should know that the location/group has a specified length; when
    you execute ifc_stat.exe and the input is a bit long, the input goes
    on to the beginning of the next line,

  - In one ANSI the output is dark gray instead of light gray as with
    the other ANSI's. You almost cannot see anything,

  - A good idea to make such ANSI-files and displaying them random, this
    will surely do your BBS some good,

  - You can select the  area where the  ANSI-files are stored  yourself;
    you can make your own ANSI-files, but take care of the X,Y-cordina-
    tes,

  - Some mistakes (I think) are made in the relative small doc-file:
    It's not  LOGON.BAT but  LOGONXXX.BAT (i.e.  LogOnAll.bat). Then you
    say: Use -%1 .... but you mean -n%1. Next, did you really compile it
    with PCEKiT v2.5? An updated version was already released by the
    time you coded this tool (PCEKiT v2.60),

  - In the documentation is stated that when the program does NOT find
    the ANSI-files it causes a runtime-error but at our BBS this did NOT
    occur,

  - Why the "4" as the second line in Stats.cfg? There nothing mentioned
    about the mark in the doc-file.

   Conclusion:
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Working statistics displayer with random ANSI showing.
  KILLERS JOINCONF v1.0
  A /X join door by Prowler, for the people who don't want to use my own
  join door as that one isn't 100% /X looking.
  So what's the difference between this join door and mine?
  Mine works...
  Before you get up and yell "You would never put one of your own tools
  down!" let me explain.
  Prowler's join door was  coded to make a 100%  ami/x looking join door
  as I mostly foccuss on functionality and  not try to make a 100% ami/x
  looking door.
  The reason why  I didn't make an  ami/x join door is  because it would
  have taken me a bit more time.  The problem of an ami/x like join door
  is that it should  only display the conferences where the user has ac-
  cess to.  Whether mine displays all  conferences but if  a user has no
  access to it, it will not display  the conference name, this is easier
  to program and you have less change of getting errors.
  Prowler tried the ami way, but the tool was released to fast and there
  are 2 serious bugs in it,
  1: When a user  has access to a  lot of conferences  the door displays
     crap and selecting a conference is no longer possible.
  2: Every  time  you press  a button  the door  does a  complete screen
     write. When you test  the door  localy that's  not a  problem,  you
     might even not notice it, but on the remote that's an entirely dif-
     ferent story....you can have a cup of coffee while the door is sen-
     ding the ansi header again and moving the cursor.
  All in all  this door is a  good try to code a  join door but I do not
  think users will appreciate it  as it is right now. If Prowler can fix
  the problems I think  his join door is  equal to mine in functionality
  and if you want 100% ami/x tools you can even prefer it to mine.
  PS. As we (The Dutch PCE Team) write the PCE-MAGAZINE we do NOT review
      any of  our  own tools,  you may have  noticed that  but we  never
      really said it...
   Conclusion:
     Door cannot handle a user with axx to a lot of conferences.
  Personally I'm usually not impressed by the beta tools of cows, in ge-
  they just don't work at all.  If I may give  The White Knigth a  small
  hint then  I would like to say that he should debug his betas a little
  better.
  In an accompanied file  TWK says he knows there  a few bugs and one of
  them is that the wordwrap isn't 100% working
  (I get the distinct feeling  that he says this so I cannot write a re-
  view that totally stamps his tool in the ground...)
  But to show there aren't (that many) hard feeling between us I've made
  a small source for him that handles wordwrapping 100%, I have tried it
  in a small chatter  and it worked perfectly, so WK, use it if you want
  and you're wordwrapping problems are over.
  100% what is that with you guys?!!!?
  ferent for a change,  you can design you own chat areas (as long it is
  rectangular) and it works relatively good.
  A nice idea would be  if it were possible that  the sysop could define
  every line of the chat area,  that way  you can make  any figure of an
  chat area you want i.e. a round chat area...
   Conclusion:
     Fix the wordwrap
