These programs are 32-bit DOS extended programs. They require a 80386
compatible processor and a DPMI server to be present. The userlist compiler
(ulc.exe) needs to load all nodelists into memory simultaneously, so you
should also have at least 4 MB of accessible DPMI memory when running ulc,
better more. The other tools (nlcrc, nldiff, nlupdate) require not very much
memory, 640K should be enough for them :-).

A DPMI server is always present in a Windows or OS/2 DOS command prompt
(though you are normally better off running the OS/2 or Windows native
executables, unless you have only Windows 3.1). On DESQview systems, you will
need to install QDPMI.SYS to have a DPMI server. Make sure that the DPMI
memory limit is at least 4 megabytes, but better more.

In case you are running plain DOS without any DPMI server, CWSDPMI.EXE is
included in this directory. Simply put it in the same path where you put the
other EXE files, and it will act as an DPMI server as long as no other one is
installed already. You don't need to call CWSDPMI.EXE explicitly. Please
note that CWSDPMI is not a public domain program. It is licensed under the
GNU Public License instead. You can obtain the full source code for CWSDPMI
and a copy of the GNU license from ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/djgpp/v2misc.

Have fun!
