Mark:

I've been running the Baud Town BBS here in Los Angeles for the last 6
years. While we were able to make money in the beginning, the internet
gave too many free altnernatives. While there were several profitable
operations in the mid-90's they're all gone.

Baud Town is still here because we recast our operation to "payment
optional" and moved it to my office, where it rides on our T1. As a
result, costs went way down and we can survive.

BT has almost 500 users, of whom 125 call daily, with the total daily
calls running about 300. Our income is negligable and I'm reconciled
to the back that we'll always be a hobby board. OTOH, we're still
alive and running.

If you want to run a BBS, do it -- it's a lot of fun. But do *NOT* do
it with the expectation that you'll be making a significant profit.
