This is my second newsletter for LORD, LORD II, and Tournament LORD
program authors and game players. Based on friends who have given
me support, I will keep this newsletter going through a June issue,
at least. I would appreciate those of you who read this letting me
know that you will support me, by providing entries for that issue.
From the start, I intended this to be either bi-monthly or quarterly.
Doing one each two months doesn't work for me, so it will continue
to be quarterly.

Legend of the Red Dragon version 4.05 public beta is available in
these two ways: Download it from my LORD Utilities Page, see the
Program Versions table; or download it from the LORD Reborn site --
http://lord.darktech.org . The archive is 333 KB in size.

LordNews Issue #1 is now available as a web-page. It is not fancy,
and I have not attempted to make more than a few sites hyperlinks. For
those who have wished to see this done, it is now available at:
http://geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/5389/Archives/ccigm-1.html.
Donald 4/04/2000 - 04:20 am.

                        Site closures listing:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
New version of Crazy Tom's Hut Lord2 IGM released in February.
New Frank's Firearms Lord2 IGM released in mid-March.

Notes from Michael: If any LORD2 IGM authors decide to give up on
LORD2, I would only be too happy to continue updating and supporting
their old IGMs, with my name on it, of course. Naturally, they would
get credit for the initial concept. I would take over for normal LORD
IGM authors too, but alas, my pascal knowledge is rather limited. I've
been leaning more towards C++, and experimenting with developing LORD
IGMs with that. A toolbox for this would help me greatly, if you know
of any, or know of anyone who might know...

Michael: Several new IGM ideas to expand upon the LORD2 experience
are in the works, however, Canucksoft will be devoting a majority of
it's time this year to developing a Multi-User door game. No
particulars are available yet, but what we can say is that it is a
very in depth, very absorbing, very rewarding game. Check out the
Canucksoft site at http://members.xoom.com/canucksoft/ over the next
several months for information regarding this new game.

Codax Dragon: codax_dragon@juno.com
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Way/9982/drgnden.html
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Codax is still working on getting the bugs out of his current Lord
program. He has reviewed several Lord2 programs, so if anyone wishes
to see the reviews, they should write him for copies.

Codax: The only reason LORD2 is at a standstill is because the sense
of competition is gone. Without the medium to get reviewed games to
the public none feel they should work on them. Thus is my problem.
... I have most of the IGMs unreviewed by Bobby Queen reviewed and up
on my page. I don't mind hosting a new IGM reviewing page or
reviewing. In fact I've offered my services to Bobby several times.
I think you had a great idea trying to get LORD2 to return to
mainstream and I want to help. WE CAN DO THIS!
Here is the link: http://members.xoom.com/drgnden/lord2igm/. All
the HTML files are the reviews... I don't have the .zips (for the
Lord2 IGMs) but they can be easily downloaded off Bobby's site...
--------------------------------------------------

These are reviews of some of the Lord2 IGMs listed on the Official
Lord II IGM Archive, in the Untested IGMs page, done by Codax Dragon:

CREST(~1 HTM Review: Crestwood/Dragon Lair Pack v2.02

Mike Ehlert: mike@pcmicro.com Pacific Coast Micro
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Site status update from Mike: The Pacific Coast Micro site is still
up and running, it's just undergone a few changes. The http URL has
changed from http://www.pcmicro.com/bbs to the new location at
http://archives.thebbs.org. All of the files are still available
there, but the FTp server at pcmicro no longer provides file listings
to anonymous users.
The BBS Archives site is now a member of the BBS Organization, a
small group of sysops offering several services to the BBS community
including web hosting, mail lists, DNS services, banner exchange, the
official BBS FAQ, and more. I'm slowly going to be moving other BBS
sections at pcmicro.com over to thebbs.org as well in the near
future, such as the BBS development news. pcmicro.com will be used
for commercial services.
Web hosting info: He offers FREE hosting to anyone with a
web-site that is BBS-related, and for non-BBS sites, the fee is just
$10 per month, for 50 megabytes storage space.

Michael Everett meverett@goldsboro.net
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am trying my best to compile a contacts page for LORD Authors.
Simply for the purpose of making registering IGMs very simple, or if
registration is not available, saving people like me lots of time by
just telling them on one simple web page. I am working hard to make
this page full of IGMs but currently only have a few. I will gladly
include the authors names and email later down..
Here is the URL to my site: http://www.bobobbs.net/bbslordigm.htm
You can find all the info about the authors there :-) all I have right
now basically is updated email address' for LORD Life, Violets
Cottage, and LORD Suburbia. All the other IGM authors listed have not
replied as of yet.

NOTE to authors: Please contact Michael and help him with this
project. It is one worth doing, and I am glad he is willing to do
the work on it. Donald.

Suzanne Franklin fuzzykin@flash.net
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Suzanne is still with us, but suffering from various ailments like
allergies. I had some information incorrect in my first newsletter
issue, so I need to correct that. Suzanne gave up running her
Kiteria's Korner because she was having health problems back then.
The following is from Suzanne for me, and for her LORD friends:

My congratulations to Michael Preslar on finishing LORD's
new version. It's sounds very interesting, and I'm sure it will
    be a major success.
As for Kiteria, I hope she never dies, and to that end,
Bobby Queen is doing what he can to keep her alive and in the
thick of things. I no longer make any contribution's other than
occasionally checking the Guest Book (Kiteria's Korner website)
and replying to those who have written to Kiteria.
I gave my notes and permission to George Pope to continue
with my work, a new IGM CHEAT FILE. If he is not interested,
someone else may like to pick up the gauntlet with my blessing.

Steve Gargolinski: bdsoft@hotmail.com
http://bdsoft.cjb.net Black Dragon Software
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hrm.. LORD updates, let's see, I haven't really worked on anything
new for LORD lately. It just seems like there's no reason to, the BBS
scene being near death (sadly...), as I write this. Maybe I'll write
just one more LORD IGM or something for old-times sake, but I think
I'm going to turn my attention to an RPG in the style of the greatest
ever, Dragon Warrior.
Maybe if the LORD updates breathe new life into the scene, then I
might consider writing more software (I doubt this will happen,
though). BTW - If you want the source to anything I wrote just drop
me a line or check out the files page on http://bdsoft.cjb.net - It
might already be there. Well people, it seems LORD's day has finally
come to an end, it's sad - But it was quite a ride, wasn't it. To
quote a good BBS friend: Thanks for the memories, and I hope we can
all do it again sometime. But we never will. Steve.

Joel Gathercole: greenie@darktech.org
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Joel has recently released the latest version of his Complete New
World program, version 136.0. It now contains an auto-updater program
which sysops can use to update their CNW setup more easily with.
Contact him for more details about it if interested.
Joel has recently changed to a new website address -
http://lord2.darktech.org - and all past versions of his CNW program
may be downloaded from there. He also mentioned a Lord2 mailing list.
It is at lord2@egroups.com, to subscribe write to
lord2-subscribe@egroups.com.

Duncan Idaho: innuendo_bbs@yahoo.com
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Duncan is working on his DuneWorld Lord2 program, and has a web page
that people can visit. http://members.xoom.com/InnuendoNZ/
When he's finished working on it, his website will be named BYTE-ME
Software Productions. DuneLord2, is an update of his original
program, which he didn't release due to not being satisfied with it.
He thinks he may be able to release it by mid-2000. He is also now
working on another Lord2 World, which is based on Robert Jordan's
Wheel of Time book series. This one is named L2WoT.

Peter Jackson: peter_jackson@netzero.net
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He has changed email addresses (see above). And he is going to be
moving his LORD and TEOS files to a new site sometime soon.
Peter: I may or may not work on more IGM's. I definitely plan to
do up a really nice (Shockwave) Flash web site and even another BBS.

Korombos: korombos@doctorjr.com
http://www.korombos.org/ Sharkware
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He has nothing to report currently about his Lord programs development
plans, or about the KDrive program.

Michael Preslar Info: mpreslar@mailcity.com
http://lord.darktech.org LORD Reborn News page entries:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Feb 28 entry: Rick Parrish will be working on LordNet. He's has an
Y2K fix for it, at http://www.darktech.org/mannysplace/lordnet.
No, Lord is not dead. I've just been busy earning a living. Things
will settle down soon, I hope. In the meantime, check out
http://org.darktech.org . I'm a programmer for Inventive
Communications, working on various things, such as Perl CGI's for
www.inetlibrary.com, ... Any ways, part of the "perks" of the job is an
IP, a server, and use of the company's T1 line. org.darktech.org is
my testing ground for new CGI's and a few other things.

Legend of the Red Dragon v4.05 Public Beta has been released, as of
March 15th. As a beta, it could still have some bugs, but that's the
purpose of a public beta, right? To help the developer get the bugs
out. This is a good show as to what's to come. New in this release:
Lady, a random event scripting language with full documentation,
example scripts, and 3/4 of the default random events moved to Lady.
Uses less memory, optimized code, runs faster, smoother.. a BRAND NEW
LordCfg written from scratch.. Many bugs and cheats fixed.. 4 pages
worth in the whatsnew.txt..
I've also registered a domain name.. www.lordlegacy.org and have
begun the work on it. I'll have the Lord site, Lord2, Teos, and
everything else relating to the Lord Legacy. Plus a few new, unique
things not available anywhere else that are highly sought after.
Since I've had my hands full working on Lord, and am pushing to
get the Lord2 and Teos contracts soon, I've asked Rick Parrish to work
on LordNet. Within 4 hours, he had a Y2K fix. He is continuing work,
and should have it all rewritten sometime soon (I think he said
mid-summer.)

LORD Reborn Ramblings Page Excerpt:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted Wednesday, March 29th, 2000, 4:15am:

And as you might have noticed.. Lord 4.05 public beta has been
released. So far, things have gone incredibly smooth. I've received a
few bug reports.. But not for 4.05pb (yay!). If you send an email to
e_maus@covingtononline.com with a subject of "send me lord" (no double
quotes), my email bot will send you the latest lord exe's as well as
any other goodies I have waiting (new menusets, etc) .. The bug
reports I've gotten so far have been for these snapshot exe's. (Hey
guys, sorry for the display problems. I've been cleaning those routines
up, and tweaking them).

More Good News: It's been approved. Ill be "adopting" Lord2 and Teos
as well. (Ya didn't think I had lord2 and Teos sites for nothing,
eh?) The contracts have yet to be signed, but I'm sure they will be
soon. --Michael, 5:00am
--------------------------------------------------

Posted March 21 and 24:
Got an email this morning.. Sometime in the next 2 weeks, I'll be
signing another contract.. For Lord2 and Teos! :) woo!

March 24 entry: www.lordlegacy.org has gone online.
lord2.lordlegacy.org and teos.lordlegacy.org are online as well,
but aren't developed as far. ftp.lordlegacy.org is up (check the
directory /lordlegacy for bunches of lord stuffs) ..

Note: I have not tried to correct my friends spelling errors, or my
own really. So please ignore any you see. Thanks, Donald.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
DT> I have a question for you ... When you sold the Lord programs and
DT> Teos to Gameport, did you know that they would not bother to work
DT> on them for such a long time? I've often wondered why you didn't
DT> sell to another programmer who would have jumped in immediately
and
DT> started work on updating the programs.

I actually had no plans to sell LORD, I was about to make my doors
freeware. (I had not worked on them in a long time, and most BBS's
were gone, even then..) Gameport/Metropolis called and made me an
offer I couldn't refuse. (I had no other offers, or tried to sell it
to anyone else.) They really had/have no obligations except to replace
lost registration codes of previous owners, I gave them my database.
I could only guess if or when they will decide to pull the LORD
license out and use it on something new... who knows. They are a
pretty large business with lots of things going for them.

Justin Scott: leviathan@darktech.org
Darktech: http://www.darktech.org ftp://ftp.darktech.org
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin is working on a new server for Darktech, which he moved to
California last year. The FTP server there no longer is carrying LORD
programs, but does still have some BBS files - Spitfire/VBBS
primarily. According to Justin, they had to take their file archives
offline due to problems with properly indexing the thousands of files,
and managing them.
Justin will have a file section with LORD files in it, but does
not know when that will happen. And when his new indexing system is
online, he will be adding more files with full text search and other
options.

Bryan Stanbridge: sorcerer@geocities.com

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He has stopped working on his Lord programs, due to his music
interests having taken up all of his time. He is willing to turn over
his Lord programs' source code to anyone who is interested in taking
over the programs.

Program status info: Amber Crystal development given up, but other
author (Curious) is still possibly working on it. Calib is nearly
completed. All the menu functions, overworld action functions
(search, open door, talk, etc.), and first character perspective
dungeon crawling ala "Wizardry" are about 80-90% complete. All I
had to finish was mapping out the world and plot the story.

RE: VOYAGE IGM 1.10 (RELEASE CIRCA 1997 1998)

I recieved an e-mail today from an unsatisfied customer. He asked me
how to finish this IGM. It's been a long time since I've had a look at
it, but I thought I'd help him out, and took a look at it myself. To
my surprise I couldn't figure out how to finish it myself! I could have
possibly released a wrong map update with the file, but I cannot
figure out how to win the IGM myself. If anyone out there has finished
the IGM without cheating, please contact me as I'd like to know how.
The IGM has been out for 2 years or so, so I'm a little surprised that
I haven't heard any complaints earlier. You can find the file at
either mine or Bobby's website, if you want to try and figure it out
yourself, or please e-mail me if you know how to beat my IGM!

LORD News Page Survey: I will eventually work on creating a new web
page, just for the purpose of listing important news notices regarding
LORD. At present, I have not had time to devote to this idea.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
               Castle Camelot web-site layout changes:
I probably will create a Lord subdirectory on my website later this
month (April), and move all of my Lord web-page files there. This
will include text, html, and archive versions of my Lord Authors
Newsletters. I am considering taking over running Suzanne Franklin's
Kiteria's Korner site. It would be in a Kiteria directory on my site,
or provided as a separate web-site, probably at DarkTech. This is
contingent on feedback, so please note the following survey on this
issue.
Other changes to note: I will be converting my LORD IGMs Page
from a paragraph listing mode to use tables for listing all IGMs.
I have also, in early March, redone the tables arrangement on my
Lord II IGMs Page, to use four tables for listing IGMs. Several
of the web pages will be getting new waterfall pictures when I've
got the picture replacement work completed.

                       Kiteria's Korner Survey:

Suzanne Franklin has given me permission to take over running her
web-site, which is currently on Bobby Queen's site. It has not been
updated, other than the Lord Links page, since she quit working on it.

Here are the questions: 1) Who wants me to take over the site?
2) Who will be willing to provide new or updated Lord information
files for the web-site? And 3) Who would be willing to be a full-time
maintainer of the Kiteria's Korner site, either for me, or for
yourself? Send all comments to me please at donald.tidmore@usa.net.

Also, if you have LORD IGM Cheat files that you have created, please
send them to me, and I will make sure they are available online,
through the Pacific Coast Micro web-site, as well as other locations.

Official Lord II IGM Archive Site Survey:

Most of you are aware that the website is not being updated by Bobby
Queen, primarily due to health problems and other factors. Some of
us have been discussing by Email having someone else take over running
the web-site. Please answer these questions:

1) Who wants to see the site more frequently updated?
2) Who wants to see the site taken over by someone else, such as
   Tien Lung, for example?
3) Who is interested in taking over the site, to operate it full-time,
and make sure it is kept updated with new IGM files, IGM review
pages, and all other needed site maintenance?
4) Since some may be happy with Bobby running the site, who is willing
to provide him with help operating the site. Such as providing
reviews of new/updated Lord2 IGMs, and updating the Lord2 FAQ
pages, such as blockfaq.htm. And since the site costs money to
operate at its current location, who is willing to help Bobby
   (or another owner/operator) financially?

Those who wish to write Bobby can reach him at wizards@shelby.net.
