                       The Atomic Clock - What is It?

The Atomic Clock will through a ghost event set your TBBS System Clock in
sync with the US Atomic Clock in Washington, DC. The Atomic Clock is the most
accurate clock around. The program will even take into consideration the time
it takes in getting the time to telling TBBS to make the changes in the time.
I do not think you can get your TBBS system clock any more accurate using a
TBBS application. PLUS with the Atomic Clock running in a ghost event you can
be happy to know that the system time will not run astray.

The Atomic Clock can be setup in a ghost event say, once a week (or if you
have a better clock, once a month to call and set the time. I would suggest
once a week. You can also run the program throught a menu option at will.

A log file is kept to see how far off your system clock was each time the
program runs. This program was kind of a trick to get to do what I thought a
good clock setting program should do. I must have look at 2 dozen different
DOS/Windows based programs before this one came to be.

This program Requires TBBS v2.3, TDBS v2.3, InterChange v1.1 & Sysom v1.2.
This program needs them all and we have not tested it with any earlier
version other then what is listed above.

                          Setup And Installation

The Control file (Atomic.ctl) is as follows:
Ŀ
Lines:4,7,6,5,3,2,1
UTC Offset:4
Registration:0

                Please do not change the format of this file.

get the current time. Example: you have 7 lines and like to use like 4 first
and then want to use them backwards from highest to lowest enter
Lines:4,7,6,5,3,2,1
if you want to use groups you can too..

UTC Offset: is your Time Offset from UTC. If the east coast is on Daylight

UTC Offset:4
The Registration: line should be 0 until registered, Do not change the 0
The Path to USERLOG.BBS: should have the trailing \ if it's on C:\tbbs then
you  would enter
Path to USERLOG.BBS:C:\TBBS\

Note: No Spaces after the ":"

The Control must be in the format above At least what is above the ;---- line.

To Call the program you need to use a MENU like the one below and in the file
MENU#SET.CTL - if you have no other menu call #SET you can compile the menu in
the MENU#SET.CTL (Making any path changes as needed). You can also cut and
paste MENU#SET.CTL into your Main.SDL file.

It is as follows:
Ŀ
;

Entry:
KEY=^@ TYPE=12 Opt Data=2
; This Back up the path to TWO menus back. You may only need 1
EndMenu:
;

The menu can be edited but the TWO calls to Atomic.tpg must be made. Since
TDBS has this habit of exiting control when you use Interchange we must get
ready and make the call the first time through, and the second we read the
data and make the time changes.

To Call the log viewer you would add the follow to your sysop menu or where
you would like to be able to view the log.

         Entry:
         Priv=250
         KEY=A TYPE=200 Opt Data=D:\ATOMIC\ATOMIC /q && VIEW

Add a GHOST Event using the following information. See pages 5-15,5-16 of
the TBBS User Manual if you have never added a Ghost Event.

LINE=254 It does not have to be a line with a Modem to run the TPG
                It will call a line with a Modem as you define in the CTL file

AT/ON When you would like to have the program kick in.
                Sun at 6am would be as good as time as any.

TYPE=5          Calls a Menu

Opt Data=#SET The Name of the Menu

There are so many Ghost Task today that a lot of TBBS Sysops are using Ghost
Managers. Add it as you would any other task in the program. We have test it
with Ghost Manager by John Schachat and it works just fine.

You can also add the Ghost Event to your TIMS.CTL file BUT let that be a last
resource.

I would suggest setting up a MENU Item on your sysop menu (Or one of them) to
call this menu so you can watch it kick in and work to make sure you have
everything setup just right before setting it on AUTO. Once it is on Auto,
just sit back and you'll know that your clock is being check and set just
right.

I have not see what happens at the Atomic Clock during a Time Change but I
would think that it would be fairly smooth.

                           Other Options on TPG

To VIEW the data in the log file, use the following format:

         Entry:
         Priv=255
         KEY=V TYPE=200 Opt Data=D:\ATOMIC\ATOMIC /q && VIEW
