But that approach would limit every chapter to 30 or 31 verses.   
What about the books and chapters that have more then 31 verses  
like the Psalms?

BTW.. there are several programming echos out there, but I think  
most of them reside on othernets.

FamilyNet has an echo for BASIC, but no one has posted since May  
18, 2020.

Perhaps another net has a more generic programming echo where  
you can reach someone who knows/uses BASIC.
