OpenGL 1.0 is faster than 1.1, so use it if you don't need the extra features in 1.1. If you have a Pentium Pro or above CPU, there is a device driver that will improve OpenGL performance. Make sure you use the 1.1 libraries and headers to build your programs, since if you use the 1.0 libraries on a system with 1.1, they will fail but if you use the 1.1 libraries on a system with 1.0, it will work alright. There is an excellent series of articles on www.edm2.org (might be .com) on OpenGL, just look in the back issues. There are also Glide libraries (a subset of OpenGL) that are hardware accelerated on the Voodoo I and II if you are interested in that sort of thing.
