There is a page that describes some of the various pinouts that IBM used on the PS/2 drives, although I don't have it handy at the moment. Search on Google if you really want to go through the pain. The problem is that IBM used various different pins of a special single cable to connect the PS/2 2.88 to the MB. Trying to adapt a PS/2 drive to a non-PS/2 MB could theoreticaly be done, but you might damage the MB in the trying and the amount of time required would be prohibitive. I have a small supply of brand new Sony 2.88 drives for standard MBs availabe for $60 ea including shipping in the lower 48.
