you can... how it is done depends on the terminal program you are using... some 
use the right mouse button to paste with... some use the middle mouse button... 
some have some special keystroke... on my kubuntu system using the command line 
telnet or ssh clients, i have to use CTRL-SHIFT-C and CTRL-SHIFT-V to copy and 
paste in the text terminals i use... GUI stuff uses a different means for the 
same...

with that said, what terminal program are you using? what does it use to paste 
with?
