This is happening as a result of me using the apply_sample.mps

Since you wrote that thing, probably long ago, has anthing changed in Mystic 
in a more recent release, that would cause apply_sample to not acknowledge the
New User Settings option for "Message Reader: ANSI" ?

That's the only problem I'm facing with the script; it's not recording the new
user's reader preference (which I set in Mystic settings to be "ANSI")

After the user signs-up, I can change the setting for them in the user editor,
and then it works.

In "Mystic Configuration" under "New User Settings 2" and under "Message 
Reader" the options are: ANSI/ASK/NORMAL - I chose ANSI.

But in the "User Editor" in the "Settings 2" section, and under "MSG Reader"
the options are: FULL/STANDARD - I notice that STANDARD here refers to what 
the "New User Settings" refers to as "ANSI"

Does that have anything to do with apply_sample not assigning the proper value
for FULL aka ANSI?
