I share the setup running the BBS so I can't make sweeping changes to the OS,
though since it's running Profile 17 Gentoo I imagine it's some compile flag
or security policy like system-wide position independent executables that it
doesn't like. I should test it with Ubuntu in a VM but I fully expect it will
work fine there.
