I don't think there's anything wrong with Squish compressing emails. I
think there was previous discussion on the symptoms you've described and the
solution was to beware that Linux is case sensitive ie. you need to create
various case definitions for zip eg. zip, ZIP, Zip etc.

If you search Google, you'll find a number of instructions for running BBS
doors under DOSEMU. I have no experience with that. I use Maximus/DOS to avoid
such complications. 

Running a BBS on VMware MS-DOS 6.22 or WindowsXP is the easiest way to get
maximum compatibility from all your BBS applications.
