SyncTerm (download from syncterm.bbsdev.net IIRC) does about the best job of 
displaying IBM PC characters of any of the available terminals.  It is 
available for both Win32 and Linux platforms.

MBSE (which I use on my Linux laptop) is very well developed.  Synchronet for 
Linux works well too.  Both require use of dosemu to use DOS door programs.

Google for TetraDraw; it can do almost anything that you could do in the old 
DOS TheDraw.
