I haven't played with that model for so long, I was lucky to remember the little trap door and reset button. If I recall correctly, there's some more switches and buttons there too. One of the things that comes to mind about your weird numbers is that a while back, there were a lot of mods that used diodes to make these radios do things they weren't supposed to do. My IC3210 (dual bander) for instance, has been modified to TX out of band by using diodes to switch things on there. A diode was also either used or eliminated (been so long since I did it, can't recall) to make it a cross-band repeater. RW>> 10 meter rig here, besides the TS-520, is an HR-2510. All switchable, of course. And of course, it's all mode with AM,FM,SSB & CW. It was last used by a CAP guy and still has that mod in place. Hmmmm. Sounds familiar. I'll bet it's just a diode mod. ....
