I'm afraid that you are right. I took the Class "B" in 1946. At that time one had to keep that license for one year before being eligeble to take the Class "A" exam. I never did take it, though my dad did, as if I remember correctly, the FCC dropped that class requirement to work 75 and 20 fone. So why bother?, hi. In 1985 I started missing out on the lower 25Khz of each CW band, but had to take the Advanced and Extra class exams to get to the CW portion. It "is" a memory test, and if one reads the questions and correct answer enough times even the math problems are fixed in your head. Although I took my calculator it was not needed.
