They came out about 2 or three years before CDs hit the market and featured basic CD-like programming for LPs. Never had one, saw a few in stores. It was like a "Close-N-Play" with the arm built into the lid and programming keys on the front. I don't know how it sensed the track boundaries (it'd be easy with today's optics), but you could play individual tracks, re-order the entire side, or re-play individual tracks or selection groups.
