That seems to be the primary benefit.  But maybe it can also be
a way to introduce the fine high quality conversations found in
fidonet echomail (excuse me [cough cough gag gag]) to new
initiates.

The existence of Aftershock and HotdogEd are an illustration of
a need that wants to be filled: portability.  The apps are
probably being built by much younger people than most of us here.

The pages on the Telegram site suggest that they welcome people
to incorporate Telegram features "into your own apps". So, it
sounds like someone is free to design an app that has a layout
more conducive to a fidonet presentation. A wider message
"bubble" would be a good feature so as to avoid the premature
wrapping in some messages.
