Maybe we're biased because highspeed internet is ubiquitous for us. I  
noticed that a couple of Stas' nodelist entries indicate dialup.  He's  
trying to bridge the wider mobile user to the dialup user?  But, as a  
consequence he has discovered a way to bring fidonet to a smartphone user  
- which is what *was* being agonized about here.

Is Telegram the only techology that offers a free API/protocol/schema for  
this sort of thing?

I lieu of waiting for the ideal programmer to take up the gauntlet of  
reaching the smartphone crowd with a new API that can talk to BBSes, maybe  
a Telegram gateway could work with the ready-made Telegram code.
