It would be nice to be able to hire someone who could explain the difference between a router and a switch. May not need to know how to program them, but at least a working knowledge of the basic concepts. Those of us with more experience tend to be set in our ways to the point that it may be difficult for a business to mold us to what they need rather than us trying to change them.
