I think I solved it.

The issue was I was running Htick from a location where the config files that
pointed to the zip/unzip settings were not able to be seen. For some reason
that mucks up the way the file being tossed is handled by Htick and can lead
to the 0kb issue... 

So by setting the active directory in my script to where the config files
were it seems to have solved the issue. That said I'm still not 100% certain
and will keep an eye on things.
