I think we need at least one echo to carry some or all of this stuff so people have a place to post it but I also think the frequency of such posts is an issue and detracts from any current value of such and echo(s) fu> Av> FSX_STA fu> fu> best for a website i guess. Yep I think perhaps (at best) a once a week post to echomail vs daily and the rest on the fsxnet.nz website may be the better way to go.. stats never really gets too many people excited :) fu> Av> FSX_ENG - the echo is largely inactive and I think posts covering Eni fu> fu> enigma bbs hasn't been updated in two years. probably dead. I'm not sure if dead but I will after replying to these posts have a look at the levels of activity etc. and the hunch is it's pretty quiet and that the author of the software is not overly active (at least in fsx) these days. fu> Av> FSX_MAG - the echo does has some activity but again, perhaps best to fu> fu> author is writing another different bbs already. i think it's dead too fu> Yeah but the software was handed over/picked up by another sysop who is doing something?? with it I understand... but just the need to still have a dedicated echo for it I'm not convinced based on levels of traffic etc... again I'll need to check the stats but yeps .. could probably merge down to FSX_BBS for now in order to keep number of fsx echos 'simple' ;) fu> bit of a shame. did we have an FSX_HOBBY before? i get the need for both fu> GENERAL and "GENERAL but not really like about how i knocked over my fu> garbage cans today" Not that I can recall [time passes] We had a DIY echo, but that was retired in May 2023, and replaced with a Lifestyle echo that covers DIY, and a whole lot more... but that has not been super active either. I think folks active in BBSing seem to be more interested in chatting about tech and BBS related stuff than shall we say non BBS topics... there are a few exceptions and I'm still learning all these years later as to which topics and echos to support them to create and what not to do.. I just want to limit the number of echos needed if the traffic in some is essentially low then better to merge stuff down and have less setup overhead for incoming sysops etc. fu> Av> 1) Merge video and music echos into one - not sure? fu> fu> i'm with.. i forget their nick sorry.. about making it FSX_MEDIA OK thanks. fu> Av> 2) Keep crypto echo or not? I like the idea of an echo for encoded po fu> Av> 3) Keep HAM echo, albeit that's it fairly quiet. fu> fu> maybe FSX_NICHE or something could fill a role. i duno. it's one of those fu> things that's like.. ham radio is alive and well in many ways, but fu> definitely not posting about it on bbses. I don't like Niche as a concept as it's hard to nail down agreement as to what's in and out of that... and yep there's HAM posts on BBSes and an echo in fsxNet for that... but a later suggestion to broaden the focus of that HAM echo (I'll reply to soon) I think has merit too :) fu> could be generic as possible and make FSX_GEN2 and we could post ascii fu> renditions of gentoo (sounds a bit like gen2) penguins with ascii speech fu> bubbles fu> \________________________ fu> _______________________________________________/ fu> \ / \/.::::. fu> __...::O::::: fu> ,''''::::::' :: fu> `':'':..::: fu> : :::::::: fu> : :::::::::: fu> : :::::::::: fu> : :::::::::: fu> : :::::::::: fu> : ::::::::::: fu> : :::: :::::: fu> : :::: :::::: fu> : ::: .:::::: fu> : ::: ::::::: fu> : :: ::::::: fu> : : ::::::' fu> .: ::::::: fu> ,;;::'.::::::: fu> fu> --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A47 2021/12/25 (Windows/32) fu> * Origin: cold fusion - cfbbs.net - grand rapids, mi (21:1/616) Not sure about a separate generic echo, I think one is enough but I do think posting ASCII art is always a good idea and posting it in the general echo would be fine or if we end up doing something like a expanded FSX_ADS echo then perhaps ASCII and ANSI art could be encouraged there. I wonder how we would get on in an echo that mixed some BOT AD like posts with people chatting in the same echo (non-bot stuff) and *hopefully* sharing their ASCII and ANSI art posts there also? Perhaps the BOT posts would detract things too much? Not sure.
