Well, it's not so much that.  You could easily prevent the issue by 
simply having the equipment on a UPS.  Because it's a "hobby" makes it 
not important enough for a $75 UPS?

Even more important than "uptime" is the prevention of damage to the 
equipment, which may be even more important to a hobbyist than a 
business.
