Originally I was running the BBS on the Raspberry Pi OS, but ended up putting it on Ubuntu Server 24.04.1. I have an EXSi server in my homelab, so the BBS is running as a VM. I chose Ubuntu because it was the easiest to get up and running. If I had to do it again I might choose straight Debian.
