Hmmm, so this confirms you're launching it as your regular user. Yeah, not really sure :(

The only other thing I can think of is that you may need to compile python from scratch. I don't really have any other ideas. If you look here http://wiki.mysticbbs.com/doku.php?id=python_install - at the bottom of the page are instructions to compile python 2.7. Perhaps you can try doing something similar with whatever version you're using?
