I don't know if the Pi 3 can boot from USB, I know it would take a re-written boot. I just moved a 12T USB drive over to one of the Pi 3 units, but it has no way in from the outside. Comcast/Xfinity has shutdown all control over that with a very limited 'app'. I can't even see everything on my network with it. Want to move to a Pi4 for 3.0 USB to that 12T. In the long run I may replace a desktop or two with the 8G Pi4 (which can still be bought at $170 or so). ....
